Chapter 96
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 96:
âOn it,â Hadley replied, heading off to freshen up.
When she came back, Eric jerked his chin at the chair across from him.
âSit down.â
Hadley blinked, thrown for a loop. âWhatâs up? You need something?â If not, she had to hit the road prontoâshe was already pushing it to get back to Galant for rehearsal.
âJust sit when I say sit,â Eric snapped, his brow creasing. Patience wasnât exactly his forte. âWhatâs the big deal? The chair isnât gonna eat you. Sit already.â
Hadley let out a quiet sigh but plopped down anyway.
A smirk tugged at Ericâs lips, smug as can be. He waved a hand at the untouched breakfast spreadâhis portionâstill sitting pretty on the table.
âDig in.â
âSay what now?â
Hadley froze, wondering if her ears were playing tricks on her. Eric was offering her food? Earlier, he had practically put up a âno Hadley allowedâ sign around the grub.
âUhâ¦â Eric clocked Hadleyâs hesitation and read her mind like a book. He swallowed hard, practically choking on the words. âLook, earlier? That was me being a jerk. Iâm sorry.â
Hadleyâs jaw hit the floor. Eric, of all people, apologizing? She had to be dreaming. In all the time she had known him, this was a unicorn moment.
Still, she figured it all boiled down to Nyla.
Hadleyâs voice came out soft as a whisper. âNo need to say sorry to me. I get itâyouâre not exactly my cheerleader, maybe even canât stand the sight of me. Itâs only natural youâd rather not bump into someone who rubs you the wrong way. But Iâm here for Nyla, not you. Iâll be more careful and make sure to steer clear of your radar from now on.â
She flashed a small smile, nodding at the table. âYouâve got nothing to feel bad about. Iâll pass on breakfast.â
He had laid out an apology, and she still wasnât biting?
Ericâs face clouded over, his tone dropping to subzero. âOh, so youâll scarf down whatever Marshall shoves your way, but when I offer something, itâs a hard no?â

As he spoke, Ericâs mind flashed back to Hadleyâs warm smile at Marshall, and it lit a fire in his chest.
Narrowing his eyes, Eric spat out his words like venom. âYou sure looked cozy grinning at Marshall earlier, huh? Whatâs the dealâare you into him now?â
Hadley blinked, completely thrown. What was he even on about?
But Eric wasnât letting up.
His eyes blazed with fury, a wild tempest churning beneath the surface.
âMarshall is way out of your leagueâdonât even think about it! Setting aside the fact that everyone in this town knows your name for all the wrong reasons, youâre a divorcee with a rap sheet of bad vibes. Youâve got no shot with any of Srixbyâs big shots!â
Hadley took it all in without a word, her initial stun giving way as the color drained from her cheeks.
Then Eric twisted the knife. âTalk about reaching for the stars!â
