Chapter 1043
Spoiled by Mr. Russell
Hannah's words shocked Heather as it was the first time Hannah had asked back for something she had taken.
âHannah never dared to claim anything since she was young. When did she become daring enough to demand things from me?Is this ringâno, is that man so important to her?â
Thinking so, Heather became thoughtful and diverted her gaze from the ring to her sister. âWhat did you say? Repeat it since I didnât hear you correctly.â
From Heatherâs demeanor, Hannah knew her sister had gotten mad, and she should not repeat it. The pain in her shoulder also reminded her not to do it.
However, when she saw the ring, Hannah thought about Ralphâs face and what he said about living happily ever after with her. It was the first time she had wanted so much to spend the rest of her life with someone.
âSince Iâve come this far, thereâs no use being afraid. Can being afraid make a difference?â
She bit her lip and said weakly yet firmly, âHeather, I know youâre upset, and I shouldnât be saying this.
However, Iâve never asked you for anything, talked back to you, or defied you all my life. I donât ask for anything else, but that ring is mine.
âHe...gave it to me. I hope you can return it to me. Iâm not asking much, and I'll be...content if I have something that belongs to me and that I can keep with me.â
âWill I be content? I want a lot more, but I know itâs impossible. That being the case, won't it be nice if I have something to console myself with?â Thinking so, Hannah treasured the ring even more.
Heather snorted twice. âOh, yeah? Something that belongs to you?â
Her face betrayed no emotion, but she tightened her grip on the ring. Hannah had no idea that her confession had enraged Heather.
To Heather, her twin sister was a useless substitute who could only offer occasional help. She thought Hannah should not have a sense of self as she could not do anything.
âThe sole reason she still lives in this world is that I need her. If thatâs the case, she shouldnât have a sense of self, let alone want to own things.â
âHannah Riggs!â Heather got up and emphasized every syllable of her sisterâs name, staring down at her.
Kneeling on the floor, Hannah looked small compared to the tall Heather.
Like a queen, Heather looked askance at Hannah and said coldly, âHave I been so nice to you and given you so much freedom that youâve forgotten who you are? How dare you ask me for anything?
âThings that belong to you?â
âWho the f*ck are you to own things? What f*cking things belong to you? Donât forget that youâre just my shadowâa shadow doesnât deserve to own anything!â As Heather spoke, the ring started bending due to her grip.
âNo!â
Hannah noticed her beloved ring becoming deformed, so she lunged over and held Heatherâs arm in anguish. âPlease donât do it, Heather! I'll do anything you say, and Iâll go nowhere. I-I won't see him again. I just want the ring. Please give it to me. Please! I apologize to you. I apologize!â
