Chapter 145
Spoiled by Mr. Russell
Lily walked back to her room on tiptoes. After scanning her access card, she entered through the door and tried to appear as calm as possible. âIâm surprised youâre back.â While closing the door, Lily heard a sarcastic voice behind her, making her tense up immediately.
âHâHey! Youâre awake?â Lily turned back to look at Jenny, sitting on the couch in her pajamas, watching her. It looked like she was waiting for Lily to return. âDid I wake you? Oh, man. I wanted to throw our garbage downstairs and buy breakfast on the way back. Iâm sorry for waking you up.â Lilyâs words naturally flowed as she had gone over them in her mind earlier.
âWow! Continue with your interesting story. Iâm listening.â Jenny snorted.
âWhat story?â Lily blinked innocently, then said, âIâm tired. It must be because I woke up too early. I better get some more sleep now.â
She stretched her arms as she spoke, wanting to walk to her bedroom. However, Jenny was quick to move. She stretched her leg and stopped Lily from taking another step. âYou think Iâll let you escape?â
Lily smiled helplessly. âEscape? What are you talking about? I just want to take a nap.â
âNo, you canât. Tell me honestly. Where were you off fooling around last night?â Jenny questioned in a righteous tone as if she was talking to a crime suspect.
Lily pursed her lips, finding Jennyâs choice of words hilarious. âHuh? Who would I fool around with?
You? You were already asleep when I came out of the shower last night. I slept soon after that. I just woke up earlier than you today. What do you mean by fooling around? Mind your words.â
After saying all that, Lily wanted to walk away, but Jenny would not allow her to do so. âI was awake since 1 a.m. last night, and you were already gone. If you slept, what time did you wake up? You meant to tell me that you woke up before 1 a.m. and went to throw the garbage, and you were doing that till now?â
Lily had no words. She did not expect Jenny to be awake since then. âShe didnât tell me that she woke up. Did she wait for me the entire night?â
âYou werenât awake the whole night, were you?â Lily leaned closer to look at Jennyâs face and noticed the dark circles under her eyes. It made her feel guilty. , âDonât try to change the topic! I was up waiting for you the entire night, and I couldnât even get through to you because your phone was off. Youâre amazing, arenât you? I even considered calling the cops just now! Donât even think about leaving the room today if you donât tell me everything honestly!â Jenny stood in front of the door, insisting that Lily explain herself. Her action rendered Lily speechless.
âOkay, Iâll tell you, I woke up at 1 a.m, and went to throw the garbage downstairs because I couldnât fall asleep. After that, I suddenly felt the urge to go for a night jog. While jogging, I got lost and finally found my way back after a long time. Do you believe me now?â Lily looked at Jenny cautiously, sprouting lies that even she could not bring herself to believe. Sure enough, that was the same for Jenny, who had dissatisfaction all over her gaze. Lily sighed and gave up on trying to enter the bedroom. She strode back and sat down on the couch. After pondering for a moment, she finally said, âI went to meet a friend.â âYou met with a friend?â Jenny came over to Lily. âWho was it?
Isnât this your first time here? Where did that friend come from? Is it a guy or a girl? Why did you have to meet your friend so late at night?â
Lily found Jennyâs train of questions interesting. âJen! Are you interrogating a suspect? Itâs my fault for hiding this from you, but this is my private matter, isnât it?â
âIâm not trying to intrude on your privacy. Itâs just that this is your first business trip with me, and weâre in a foreign place. What am I going to do if anything happens to you? How should I tell your family and the company about it? I must take care of you here!â Jenny explained her concern for Lily, evident in her tone.
