Chapter 1482
Spoiled by Mr. Russell
Lily rushed over to the hospital, but it was too late.
By the time she arrived, Thompson had already been declared dead, despite the emergency treatment.
Taking a glimpse of him, she saw his face was bloody and somewhat damaged, but she could still recognize him.
Eyes closed, the man could no longer hear her nor fight with her over the laptop and lab data.
"Professor Thompson..." Her voice quivered, and so did her outstretched fingers.
"are you his family?" The doctor asked as he slowly covered the professorâs face with a white cloth.
Lily shook her head, then suddenly thought of something.
"Hasn't his family arrived yet?"
"There was no phone on him, so we cannot contact anyone.Do you know his family? Can you help us contact them?" The doctor was busy treating patients.
As Thompson only had his driving license with him and there was no way to reach his family, he was glad to see someone who knew the deceased.
"I donât know his family."
Shaking her head, Lily had never seen any of the professorâs kin.She joined the laboratory for the sake of the experiment and had never asked about Thompsonâs family or pried into his personal affairs. She truly did not know whom to contact.
Walking out of the emergency room, Lily was still unsettled.
âProfessor Thompson was talking to me over the phone, and now heâs dead. Our lives are so fragile.Accidents can happen at any time. However, is this truly an accident?â
"Do you know Larry Thompson?"
Holding a notebook and pen, a traffic police officer came over and asked her.
Lily lifted her eyelids and answered dully, "Yes."
"What's your relationship with him?" the officer asked again.
"We're colleagues, I guess."
Having worked together at the laboratory, she thought they were co-workers after all.
"Colleagues? Are you able to contact his family? Or anyone who can take care of his body?"
Lily shook her head dully and then thought of something out of the blue.
"Canât you find his family contacts on his phone?" The officer frowned.
"We canât find the phone.Itâs not on him."
"what about the car? Could it have dropped somewhere inside?"
"No, we tried to search for it but found nothing." The officer shook his head.
"He probably didnât bring it with him."
"No, he did! He talked to me on the phone before this.He must have brought his phone."
Lily thought that it did not make sense.
The doctor also said there was no phone on Thompson, but she didn't think much of it.
Now that the police officer had mentioned it, she suddenly realized something fishy was happening.
âHe just talked to me on the phone and said he was on his way.How could the police fail to find his phone? If it's gone, thereâs only one possibility âsomeone took it! Why would anyone want to take his phone? Who took it? Thereâs no way that this is just an accident!â Turning her bean head to the officer, she eagerly asked, "May I know if the truck driver has been arrested? Could he have taken Professor Thompsonâs phone?"
"No, weâve kept the driver in custody and didnât find the deceasedâs phone on him.The accident took place at a junction. The deceased drove fast, and the truck driver didnât pay attention as he turned. Both were somehow responsible," the officer said.
Lily nodded.
"I got it, thanks."
