Chapter 1859
Spoiled by Mr. Russell
Lily left the office and reached downstairs when Mike caught up to her.He hurried over while calling out, "Lily? Lily! Did you mean what you said?"
Lily stopped and turned to look at him.
"Which part?"
"Well..."
He hesitated, seemingly not knowing how to phrase himself.
"That I donât f*cking care?"
Seeing his hesitant look, Lily said it out loud on his behalf.
Mike let out an embarrassed smile.
"Of course not,"
she readily denied it and added, "How could there be anyone who doesnât care about their beloved family or friends? However, I meant it when I said that as a parent, I canât always protect my children despite my best efforts."
She looked saddened as she stared at the ceiling, but Mike disagreed, "You might think so, but Iâm going to rescue Nick even if I have to sacrifice myself!"
I still have to try even if I canât.Even if I die!â
"Then what?" Lily asked blandly.
Her question bewildered him.
"What do you mean?"
"Will you be able to protect him forever if you sacrifice your life?" she asked.
Mike was stumped.
Indeed, he could not guarantee that.
âWe face various problems in our lives.
Even if I give up my life, can I guarantee my son will be safe forever? I donât think so"
After some silence, he could not help but say, "Nonetheless, I must protect him as long as Iâm around!"
After all, he would feel useless and defeated if he did not.
Lily nodded thoughtfully and did not mock him.
"I believe you will."
âAs parents, of course, we will risk our lives and everything weâve got to ensure our childrenâs safety, but even if we do, will we succeed for certain?â "Iâm willing to do that for my children as well," she added, "But if we think about it rationally, many things happen against our wishes. Itâs noble to sacrifice our lives, but it could also be meaningless."
"I donât get it."
Mike could not quite understand what she said.
Lily patted his shoulder with a smile.
"Itâs not that I donât care about my children, but I canât let that man use them to threaten me.Perhaps theyâll only be safer if 1 stopped caring."
Mike was baffled.
"Just leave it at that."
Lily did not want to dwell on it and changed the subject, "Oh, yes, I observed him just now, but I donât think he could hide anything on him, not to mention he keeps changing his clothes.Do you think the list could be inside the safe?"
They saw Rhea take the document from the safe, and Lily spotted something else inside.
Although she could not get a good look at it, she suspected it was important.
However, Mike immediately shook his head.
"No.They only bought the safe after moving here. They didnât bring it from the old research institute.Where was it before if they kept it inside the safe now?"
