Chapter 187
Spoiled by Mr. Russell
Nathaniel was overjoyed. He held the debit card with one of his hands and Melanieâs hand with the other. âMel, we can finally get married!â
Melanie glanced at the card and coldly shrugged his hand off her. âReally?â
âLook. This card is a gift from my mom, meaning she has already approved you as her daughterâinâ
law. I know what she said earlier made you upset, but donât overthink them because she meant nothing ill. She just wants the best for me, thatâs all.â
âIâm sure she wants that. She even chose a wife for you. However, I am not the woman she thinks is qualified to be her daughterâinâlaw.â Melanie was mad upon thinking of what Nathanielâs mother had said earlier.
âShe kept talking about Lily when I was the one who sat in front of her! I am the woman who will marry her son, not Lily!â
Melanie could tell that Nathanielâs mother looked down on her, making her uncomfortable.
âYouâre upset again, arenât you? I told you my mom didnât mean what she said. It doesnât matter how much she likes Lily because the most important thing is I donât like her. What can my mom do about that? I am the one getting married, so her opinions will only remain as opinions and not a deciding factor. Her words canât change anything!â Nathaniel coaxed Melanie patiently because he knew she felt aggrieved due to this matter.
âReally?â Melanie turned to look at him and said, âWhat if you change your mind?â
âWhy would I do that? After all these years, donât you know what I truly want? I have always loved you and you only! Weâll have a kid soon, so I would never change my mind!â
He held her hand and placed the card on her palm to make her feel at ease. âIn the future, you will be in charge of our familyâs finances. I will be under your control too. You can make the call for everything, okay?â
Melanie looked at the card in her hand, then at his sincere gaze again before nodding in satisfaction.
âThat depends on how you act!â
After sending Melanie home, Nathaniel headed right to the lab. They were already at the final stages of the development of the new product, and they had to be careful to stop anything from going wrong. As Melanie said, Nathaniel placed his hopes on these two new products to bring back awards and recognition for the company.
Over the past few weeks, they recruited a few perfumers and researchers to work on the new products.
Although they were not at the top of their fields, they were at least professionals. Even if they could not create anything unique, creating a few basic items would be no problem.
Everyone was working on their task at hand. Nathaniel looked around, and since the projectâs progress was satisfactory, he made no comments. He just encouraged his team members to work harder during this period. Once the products succeeded in the market, everyone would get a raise in pay.
After walking around, he realized that someone was absent again. He called the person in charge of the lab over. âWhereâs Olivia? Did she apply for leave again? Or is she playing hooky at work?â âThis stupid b*tch was only obedient for a few days. What is she up to again now?â âMr. Hall, thatâs not it. She said she resigned from work,â the person in charge said softly. He thought Nathaniel knew about the matter.
âResigned?â Nathaniel raised luis voice âWhen did she resign? Who approved her resignation? I didnât accept her resignation letter! I disapproved of her resignation! Call her now! Call her and ask her to come here this instant! Sheâs going overboard!â He stood, arms akimbo, as he ordered fiercely The person in charge made a call with mindful movements before he said, âThe call isnât going through.â
