Chapter 1996

Alexander had left Dominic’s estate but was unsure how contagious the virus was if he would spread it, or if he even got it. Therefore, he could only avoid and minimize contact with others.

Fortunately, those in contact with him did not show any symptoms. He did not feel unwell, either. Still, he had received no news from his wife.

Alexander knew he should be able to locate Lily in Kingsland with his network and resources unless she were no longer in the city.

Simultaneously, he was puzzled as to why there were no clues about her transfer from the city in such a short time. He was anxious at the thought of her and dared not imagine what she might be facing.

He would have mobilized every resident in Kingsland to look for his wife if possible but knew he could not.

‘I might be able to get Cameron to help if he were still around. Unfortunately, he’s gone missing too.’

Alexander picked up his phone and called Anastasia. He had told her to wait for the latest updates but was too busy over the last two days to give them to her. On the other hand, Anastasia had not called him, either, probably because she was too afraid, sad, or worried about something.

The phone rang much longer than usual, and Anastasa’s weak voice finally sounded, “H-Hello? Alex?”

‘Tasia, about your father…” Alexander trailed off when he noticed something was off. He asked, “Are you sick?”

“What about my father?” Anastasia grew excited when Alexander mentioned her father. “Did you find him yet? Where is he? I’ll go fetch him!”

Alexander was at a loss for words for a moment before saying, “No, I haven’t received news of him yet.

I just wanted to ask if you have any updates for me.” After a moment’s hesitation, Alexander had to dash her hope.

Anastasia became crestfallen. “No. No one has contacted me, either. Alex, do you think my father is already…”

She did not finish her sentence, but her voice choked up.

Alexander knew what she was trying to say. He sighed. “Hey, no news could be good news.”

‘Well, at least we haven’t received any bad news, right?’

“I’m thinking of reporting his disappearance to the police,” she said thoughtfully after a pause.

Alexander thought about it and answered, “It’s an option.”

Anastasia was surprised. “I thought you were going to dissuade me.”

“No, considering your father’s position and that he’s gone missing instead of getting poisoned like last time, it might be a good idea. Not to mention …” Alexander wanted to say that the secret organization was up to no good but decided against it.

“Anyway, perhaps the police can handle it better,” he continued.

‘Given Cameron’s position, his disappearance would be a high-profile case.’ “But…”
