Chapter 1997
Spoiled by Mr. Russell
Although it was Anastasiaâs idea to call the police, she was still worried.â But if I report it to the police, would I put my father in greater danger?â
She did not report her fatherâs disappearance to the police previously lest the kidnappers would kill him, but she grew anxious after receiving no news of him for two days, not even from the kidnappers.
Anastasia was in a dilemma about whether or not to call the police.
âBased on the current situation, I donât think you would, but I honestly canât say for sure,â Alexander said solemnly. He tried being objective, but his answer was certainly not reassuring.
He could not know if the kidnappers would kill Cameron since he did not know who they were, to begin with. He could have assured Anastasia of her fatherâs safety, but she would have been devastated if anything happened to Cameron.
Anastasia fell silent. She knew Alexander was right in saying so. After all, she only asked to seek solace from him. Still, the reality was harsh. She said nasally, âI understand.â
Alexander remembered what he was asking just now after hearing her nasally voice. âWait. Are you feeling unwell?â
Anastasia sniffled. âItâs nothing. Itâs just a cold.â
Although she said so, Alexander had a bad feeling and blurted out, Do you have a fever?â
âHowâ¦â Anastasia was surprised. âHow do you know that? Itâs just a slight fever, and I havenât even taken any medicine. Iâm sure Iâll get well in two days.â
She thought about it and continued, âI know the early symptoms of the pandemic disease earlier on are cold and fever, but I donât think I contracted it. Besides, the pandemic has been contained, hasnât it?
Donât worry about it.
âThank you for your concern, Alex,â Anastasia said gratefully, âIf you have any updates about my father, please let me know as soon as possible. Iâll update you after I report to the police.â
She wanted to hang up, but Alexander stopped her. âHold on a minute! Besides your fever and cold, do you have any other symptoms? Such as body aches, fatigue, or any other discomfort?â
Anastasia was puzzled when she noticed Alexanderâs anxiousness.
âIâ¦â she hesitated and pondered carefully, âdonât think so. Well, I have no appetite. Does that count?â
That was the only thing she could think of.
âAnything else?â Alexander wanted to make sure.
âHmmâ¦â Stumped, Anastasia thought momentarily and asked, âAlex, is there a problem with me getting sick? Why are you asking me these questions?â âIâm not sure, but it might be a problem,â
Alexander said, âSo if you can think of anything, please tell me as detailed as possible. Itâd be helpful!â
