“Thank you so much for saving my family!” the man said.

Edward did not expect him to burst into tears.

Alexander casually made his tea and said, “The ship couldn’t have gotten far yet. I can still ask Edward to get it to turn back.”

The doctor was baffled.

Edward said, “Get a hold of yourself, okay? Mr. Russell doesn’t like it when people cry.”

“Oh!” The doctor caught himself and quickly stopped crying. He did not want to offend Alexander and cause him to bring his wife and children back here.

Alexander sipped his tea and turned to him. “Why didn’t you leave?”

“You’ve been a great help to me, and I’d feel terrible if I left now. Besides, if I go missing, the organization might come looking for me and cause you more trouble,” the doctor said, “I can still help if I stay. I might not be able to do much, but I can at least pass on more messages!”

Alexander thought he was right.

‘He can help pass more messages to Lily if he’s here. I want to reach her safely, too.’

“But you’ll put yourself in danger.”

The doctor straightened up. “I’m not afraid! I had already decided to risk my life to save my family when the organization abducted them. Now that you’ve set them free and escorted my family to safety, I have nothing to worry about anymore.

“Besides, I don’t have the heart to walk away after what you’ve done for me. I’ve been a doctor for many years, so I know what is right or wrong. Also, your wife must feel miserable after giving birth and having no one to pass her messages to.”

Alexander eagerly asked, “According to you, Lily had a C-section. So is she fit for any major surgery in the coming days?”

The doctor blinked in confusion. “Major surgery? Of course not! She still needs time to recover. She should be resting more, but…”

After some hesitation, the doctor continued, “Don’t worry. Although your wife is being held captive, she’s well taken care of as far as I can see.”

Alexander had expected that.

‘Since they need Lily’s body for the experiment’s last stage, they’d never physically mistreat her.’

“There’s no way Lily will undergo any major surgery now, right?” Alexander asked again, wanting to make sure.

Puzzled, the doctor said, “Of course! Her delivery went very smoothly, and she had no health issues that needed operations. Why? Should they perform surgery on your wife?”

Alexander said, “No, that’s not what I meant. I was just asking to see if Lily’s okay.”

“Well, the C-section has weakened her,” the doctor sighed in relief and continued, “Childbirth is physically demanding, but Ms. Christian has coped pretty well. Few women are as tough as her since she could get out of bed so soon.

“She also wishes to recover as soon as possible, so rest assured I’ll do what I can to help her when I return.”

The doctor patted his chest as she spoke reassuringly.

However, Alexander shook his head. “No, I want you to slow down her recovery.”

The doctor was shocked and puzzled.
