Chapter 2184
Spoiled by Mr. Russell
Meanwhile, Mike had expected this, saying, âThatâs how it is. I stayed up all the time when Nicky was little. He hardly slept through the night and would cry whenever I laid him down.My arms felt like they would fall off.â
He grew sad as he spoke.
Austin was surprised. âYou looked after your son by yourself? Didn't you have a nanny?â
âWell, I couldn't afford one then, and Nickyâs mom didn't want to take care of him. So I raised him alone.â Mike felt worse after bringing up the past.
He took the babies from Alexander. âWe'll take care of them now. Go and rest.â
âI'm fine, okay?â Although exhausted, Alexander refused to leave.
âCome on.â Knowing what he was thinking, Mike said, âIf you want to make it up to Lily and the babies, you'll have plenty of time to do so. For now, you should get some rest. Who else can care for the babies and rescue Lily if you get sick?â Alexander finally yielded. However, his gaze lingered on the babies. They were sleeping peacefully now, like little angels. It was probably from crying themselves out last night or being well-fed. However, they resembled devils when they cried.
âWe have to wait for the DNA report anyway. Just leave your babies to us,â Mike said.
Alexander thought about it and nodded. âI'll take a nap. Wake me when itâs noon, all right?â
He could only sleep until noon because he had many more things to do.
After Alexander went to bed, Mike pulled over a stool and sat beside the baby stroller. Although Alexander had just received the babies yesterday, he had bought the stroller long ago.
After learning that Lily had birthed a pair of twins, Alexander equipped the house with various baby supplies, including the spacious and double-sized baby carriage. He was the type of man who would not talk much but was meticulous.
Austin left Mike with the babies and went downstairs before reappearing again with breakfast to share with Mike.
âIs it troublesome to care for children?â Austin saw Mikeâs patient expression.
âIt's manageable. We must take extra care when babies are little, but itâs all worth it once you see their smiles.â Mike looked down and touched their little faces. âSee how delicate their skin is?
âEven a slight scrape would be noticeable. Anyway, babies are the most innocent beings. They're happy as long as they have enough food and sleep.â
Austin leaned over and curiously touched them, his eyes going wide. âThey're so soft!â
âDonât touch!â Mike swatted his hand away as Austin did it again. âYou see many patients, and you might carry a lot of germs and viruses. You could infect them, okay?â
âHey, come on!â Although he said so, Austin refrained from touching them again. However, he continued to lean over the stroller and cocked his head, looking at them.
Mike grew talkative as he recalled the past, âNicky was this adorable when he was younger. Still, itâs a pain in the ass when children get sick. I remember when Nicky was three. He had a terrible fever that wouldn't go away.
âI had to rush him back from overseas overnight. Thankfully, he got well. However, the doctor told me I must ensure he wouldn't get severely injured because he has a unique blood type. Yet he...â
Mike got choked up.
