Chapter 35
Spoiled by Mr. Russell
Nathaniel could not believe his ears, âWhat did you say?â
âItâs not that I didnât think about giving you a chance, but even now, you still want me to take the blame.
Nate, do I look that stupid?â Lilyâs voice was icy. There was a sarcastic smile on the corners of her lips.
Nathaniel felt a chill in his heart. He suddenly felt that the woman before him was a stranger. She was no longer the person he had known for several years. She became so sharp, elusive, and very unmanageable. âLily, what do you mean? You donât believe me anymore?â âI trusted you so much that I donât even know how I was persuaded.â Lily paused, then did not bother explaining, âIâm now very thankful for not signing a formal contract with you. From today onward, your MN Inc. has nothing to do with me.â
She emphasized the word âyourâ as she raised her foot to walk past him and leave.
Nathaniel grabbed her arm. He had not realized what she meant, but he knew he could not let her go yet. âAre you still blaming me for not signing a formal contract with you?â He asked tentatively,â Lily, donât be so immature, okay? If thatâs what you cared about, you shouldâve said so earlier. Why are you causing so many issues right now?
âMN Inc. is mine. Isnât it yours, too? Ours? Do you realize that youâre forcing everyone into a dead end?â He tightened his grip, making her arms hurt.
Lily frowned, âLet go of me!â âIf you donât speak clearly today, I wonât let it go.â After pausing, Nathaniel realized his tone was too harsh and softened it again. He lowered his head and gave it some thought.
His heart seemed to have moved. His eyelids fluttered, and when he looked at Lily, he simply asked, âLily, are you jealous?â Nathaniel was not concerned that Lily would learn of his relationship with Melanie. Lily had never believed those claims because she was so devoted to him. Lily would believe him every time he said a few pleasant words. How could she possibly doubt him?
However, Lilyâs behavior over the last two days had been strange, especially when facing Melanie. This prompted him to think more deeply, so he took a chance, made an assumption, and went with the flow.
âAre you jealous of Melanie?â Nathaniel continued to ask, observing the change in her expression.
Lily glanced at him and said nothing. Her silence made Nathaniel more confident in his judgment.
âLily, are you serious?â He sighed heavily as his grip loosened. He shook his head and said, â After so many years, I thought no one could ever ruin our relationship. That we could withstand any challenges, but how could you...
u donât know what you heard or saw, but there mustâve been a misunderstanding. You and I. and Melanie the three of us, have known each other for so long! If I wanted to have an affair with her. it wouldâve happened long ago. You shouldnât listen to rumors. Those people are eager to cause chaos in the world. Lily, donât let them take advantage of you!â
He let go of Lilyâs arm after saying that. He turned to caress her shoulder, trying to pull Lily into his arms Lily quickly took two steps back, avoiding his touch, and asked indifferently, âOh? Really?â Unable to comprehend her, Nathaniel went with the earlier idea, âOf course! Remember how we said we would get the certificate if we won this competition? If you donât believe me, letâs get the certificate now! Letâs get married!â
