Chapter 42
Spoiled by Mr. Russell
However, Rebirth was just a subsidiary of La Beauté Group, and its relationship with the parent company was ambiguous. No one from Rebirth had yet to express any support for Lily. Olivia felt uneasy. Under Nathanielâs constant urging, she returned to the office to investigate what had transpired. Meanwhile, Lily officially reported for duty at Rebirth. Although they had negotiated a deal, the contract had not been signed. An appointment was made the day before for Lily to come in for work.
According to Alexander, Lily should familiarize herself with the company before officially starting work.
Owing to Lilyâs vehement insistence, Alexander did not intervene too much. He left it to Edward Sullivan to handle Lilyâs onboarding. Even so, Lily knew that her arrival would not be peaceful.
Walking through the office, Lily arrived at the general managerâs office. Three people were waiting inside, two of whom she had met.
âMr. Will.â
Sitting in the middle was George Will, the general manager of Rebirth, and the man on the left was the human resources department manager. Lily had met both of them before, while the woman beside them was a stranger to her.
Seeing Lilyâs arrival, George stood, walked around the table, and patted her shoulder lightly. âHello Lily, welcome to Rebirth!â âHello, Mr. Will, Mr. Thorn.â Lily greeted them politely, and then her eyes fell on the unknown woman. âLet me introduce you. This is Jenny Gray, the manager of our project department. She is a formidable businesswoman. I hope you two will get along well.â George said with a smile.
âHello, Ms. Gray.â Lily greeted her, but she had an intuition her future boss would be challenging. Sure enough, Jenny nodded slightly and stopped looking at her. âMr. Will, the project department has no staff shortage.â âOf course, there is no shortage of staff, but there is a shortage of talents! Rebirth is still in its early stages of development, and we need talents to bring the company to the next level! Lily has that talent, so you should take good care of her. Itâs also to inject fresh blood into your department.â Georgeâs words were insistent.
However, Jenny was not someone who backed down quickly and was brave enough to speak up against her superior. âDoes she? Why have I never heard of her in the industry?â
âOh yes, I remember now. There was an infamous âperfumer without a noseâ called Lily Christian two or three years ago. Was that your namesake, or...â Her tone was confrontational, and her eyes were sharp.
Faced with Jennyâs doubts and undermining, Lily straightened her back, âItâs not my namesake. That person was me.â
âOh?!â Jenny acted surprised. âIs the threshold for âtalentâ so low these days?â
âThere was some misunderstanding in what happened back then, Ms. Gray. Itâs been so long, I almost forgot about it, but you still remember,â Lily smiled, âItâs clear that we are destined to work together.â
Lilyâs lukewarm reaction made Jennyâs eyes darken, âYou can call it destiny, or you can call it misfortune.â
Then Jennyâs small smile faded, and she turned to Charles Thorn. âMr. Thorn, I will not allow a person with no qualifications into my department. Also, she has a pending lawsuit. Personally, I think it is very unwise for the company to recruit her at this time!â
