Chapter 70
Chasing My Pregnant Wife
âThat kid was quite lucky. The car was all smashed up, but heâs fine. Just a few days of rest, and
heâll be okay. Donât worry,â Sydney
reassured Rosalie.
Rosalie breathed a sigh of relief. âThatâs good. But how did he get into a car accident out of
nowhere?â
âHe passed out because he was tired. He hit a lamppost while driving last night.â
âWhat? How could this happen? Is it because of me?â asked Rosalie, growing more anxious as she
thought about it.
âBecause of you? What do you mean?â Sydney asked curiously.
âThe night before last, he stayed with me all night and didnât sleep. well.â
âWhen did he leave, then?â Sydney inquired.
âHe left early yesterday morning. I thought he went back home to rest. If he drove while tired, it
means he probably didnât get any sleep during the day either. Couldnât he have slept a few more
hours? Why did he have to drive when he was tired?â said Rosalie, feeling extremely guilty.
âIâm sorry, Mom. Itâs my fault. I should have urged him to go back to sleep,â she added.
âIt might not be entirely your fault,â Sydney said calmly. âEven a three- yearâold knows when theyâre
tired and need to sleep. Doesnât he know
that?
âAnd if he knowingly drove while fatigued, then itâs his responsibility. Who knows what he did the
whole day? Maybe he stayed up all night.
with you, then went to see that woman the next day.â
Hearing Sydneyâs words, Rosalie felt like a needle had pricked her
heart. Was that really the case? Had he gone to see Cynthia during the day?
âMom, how do you know he went to see Cynthia during the day? Are you just guessing?â Rosalie
asked.
âDo I need to guess? Arenât all men the same?â Sydney stood up and grabbed her bag. âRest well. I
have to go now.â
Just as she reached the door, Sydney turned back. âOh, by the way, Theo asked me not to tell you
about his car accident, so just pretend you donât know.â
âHe didnât want you to tell me? Why?
âI donât know. I didnât bother asking.ââ
Sydney seemed indifferent. She was a decisive person, saying what needed to be said and then
leaving without any unnecessary chatter.
Even after Sydney left, Rosalie kept worrying about Theodore. Later, when Stephanie came to see
her, she told her everything.
âSteph, I want to go see him.â
âNo, you canât run around. You have to stay in bed. Remember what
the doctor said?â
âBut Iâm really worried. I canât rest easy without seeing him.â
Sydney had said that Theodore was fine. She was his mother, so she wouldnât lie to Rosalie, right?
Even so, Rosalie still couldnât bring
herself to stay calm and do nothing.
âWhatâs there to worry about? You signed the divorce papers. You shouldnât care whether he lives or
dies.â
Stephanie was a great friend, but sometimes she could be too stubborn, especially when it came to
matters of the heart.
Rosalie grasped Stephanieâs hand tightly. âPlease, help me think of a way. I just want to see him
once.â
Stephanie gave in, unable to reject her friend, especially since she had even falsified reports for
her.
âIâll go check on him after work.â
âThatâs great. Thank you, Steph,â Rosalie said with a smile. âJust make sure to look carefully for me,
okay?â
âSo, you want me to stare at him when Iâm there?â
âNâno! Thatâs not what I meant,â Rosalie said, embarrassed. âYou canât let him see you. Just take a
quick peek.â
âYou really bring trouble upon yourself,â Stephanie replied with a sigh.
Rosalie, blinded by love, seemed to have no common sense.
Stephanie hoped she herself wouldnât be like this in the future after she found love.
