Chapter 1020: I’ll be a little busy
Pampered by my three brothers: the return of the neglected heiress
[GLOBAL PRIME LOGISTICS: CEOâS OFFICE]
Stephen held his hands together before his mouth, his expression stern and deep in thought. When his eyes fell on the documents before him, he shook his head.
"I donât think thereâs anything more that I havenât covered yet."
Perhaps this was the first time Stephen didnât think of anything else the entire day except work. In the past several days, he hadnât been able to function properly. Even if he tried, he would just end up worrying and drowning in anxiety.
But today, he didnât have such thoughts. Charles had called to give him a heads-up. It would be too embarrassing for Stephen to fall so easily once Atlas launched his first attack as part of the "revenge" scheme. Knowing Atlas, that man was the most vengeful person Stephen had met; he was worse than his father, Charles.
"Those two are just the same," Stephen grumbled, thinking of other things he might not have checked. "I donât want to fight them like this."
His face crumpled as it soured, admitting to himself that fighting Atlas or Charles like he used to was safer than having them as real enemies. No matter how much Stephen denied it, this company wouldnât have reached its current height if not for Charles and then Atlas.
"If I were Atlas or Charles... what would I do if I were the one who got kicked out?" he wondered to himself, asking that question a hundred times today. After a minute, Stephen grumbled in distress, ruffling his hair in irritation.
"I canât go home yet! Thereâs still so much to cover!" he lamented, working ten times harder than he ever had for the past several years. After all, with Atlas at the helm, everyoneâs work had lightened with his efficient ways of running the company.
"For the first time, I have to admit, having Atlas here is actually better," he hissed. "Damn it!"
It wasnât late, but Stephen was already certain he would be spending the rest of his night working and figuring out what kind of retaliation Charles and his children would make. If Charles gave him a heads-up, that meant it could happen anytime soon.
It could be now, tonight, or in a few days. Even so, Stephen wanted to put up a good fight. In a way, he also wanted to find out something.
If Stephen were given the chance to be the head of the Bennet Family, would he do it just as well as Charles?
He was curious.
Did Chairman Bennet make his decision out of logic and the companyâs interest? Or was it just out of favoritism toward his own son?
They would all find out soon.

Penny gathered her things, preparing to leave and go home. She was done for the day and was ready to go home and cuddle with her husband. But just as she was leaving her office, her phone rang.
"Second Brother?" she greeted as soon as she answered the call. "Why are you calling me right now? Is everything alright?"
"Uh... of course! Everythingâs alright!" Hugo grinned. "Just wondering how youâve been?"
"What do you mean, how Iâve been? You saw me this morning before I left for work." She shook her head, resuming her steps out of her office. "Is there something you need? If itâs money, please call First Brother. Iâm sure heâll lend you some."
"Heâll lend me with crippling interest!"
"Haha. If you beg him, heâll probably lessen it."
Hugo sighed, thinking that his sister might not lend him money if he ever asked herâeven though she was clearly teasing him right now. Not that it ever crossed his mind to ask her for help, no matter how empty his bank account and wallet were. That was not in his principles, and he would never bother his sister for a penny.
"Ehh. Iâm not calling because I want to ask for financial assistance," he clarified. "I have plenty. Those dates Grandma Pierson arranged gave me enough cash to keep me going for the next two weeks."
Pennyâs face twitched as she had heard about it from Atlas. An "opportunist," was what Atlas called their second brother.
"I called because Iâm curious about the Pierson shareholder meeting." When Hugo mentioned this, his tone slightly changed, laced with seriousness. "Itâs going to be fine, right? Grandma Pierson is retiring, and you said she had this episode where she couldnât remember anything she talked about. I know you and Zoren donât want to think much about it, but if itâs an attack... I want to know if sheâs safe."
Penny stopped in front of the elevator, motioning for Mark to stop pressing the button as she wasnât planning to get in first. "Second Brother, Iâm sure Renren would appreciate this if he heard about it."
"He should appreciate me more." Hugo nodded. "Iâm such a caring brother-in-law."
"Haha. Well, thank you for asking, but donât worry about Grandma. Sheâs going to be fine." Penny checked her wristwatch. "Renren has probably already announced the chairwomanâs retirement or will announce it soon. Either way, once he does, there will be an emergency meeting as soon as possible. Even if someone is trying to harm Grandma, sheâll be fine. Still, Renren has already sent people to look after her."
"Ahh..." Hugo nodded in understanding, smiling. "Then, Iâm not worried anymore. Anyway, have a good one. I might not come over to your place tonight."
"Youâre staying in the ward?"
"Uh..." Hugo hummed, moving to the patient in the ward where he had been living, then another person on the floor, unconscious. Hugo hissed quietly as he glanced at the graze on his shoulder, the fabric torn and bloody. "Yep! I have to clean up something in here, so Iâd be a little busy. Anyway, see ya!"
"Secondâ" Pennyâs words halted as the line disconnected abruptly. She pouted, gazing at the ward, tilting her head to the side. "He needs to clean something? What is he saying? Heâs just basically sleeping, eating, and stealing from the patientâs food."
Penny shook her head before snapping her eyes at Mark. The latter immediately nodded and pressed the button. Once the elevator opened and the two of them got in, Penny and Mark furrowed their brows as the door opened again when a hand slipped in between it. Both of them waited for the door to fully open again until they saw the person on the other side.
"Yugi," she called as the door parted, only to see Yugi smiling at her. Seeing that smile on his face, Penny didnât ask anything further and let him join them on their way down.
