Chapter 1023: This is not a race!
Pampered by my three brothers: the return of the neglected heiress
"Wow... are they really going to stay up all night?" Benjamin was in awe but not surprised by his bossâs antics. Zoren had clearly announced that after a three-hour meeting because the meeting had taken that long.
Shaking his head, he snapped his eyes at Zoren and made quick steps to reach him. "Sir, are we going home now?"
"Iâm tired," Zoren said flatly, stopping in front of the elevator and looking down at Benjamin. "Are you going anywhere tonight?"
"My cousin is staying in the city, so Iâm letting her stay at my place."
"Ah." Zoren nodded. "Send my regards to Mint. Tell her to visit sometimes."
"Hehe. Sheâs just going to ask you if someone is bullying me here."
DING!
"Who would bully you here?" Zoren asked as he stepped into the elevator, making Benjamin squint his eyes at him.
Benjamin frowned a little as he squeezed himself into the corner of the elevator. He didnât say anything, which caused Zoren to raise an eyebrow and glance back at him.
"What is it now?" Zoren asked.
"Sir, if someone is bullying me, that would be you!" Benjamin exclaimed. "You keep sending me to run errands for you to the point where Iâm exhausted and crying myself to sleep!"
"Ah."
"Ah?" Benjaminâs face soured, feeling a little bitter at Zorenâs lack of reaction. However, he didnât dwell on it because Zoren was still recovering. He told himself he would let this slide â just this once!
"If Mint is here, that means she has a lot of important affairs that need her presence," Zoren said, his eyes on the numbers above the elevator door. "Let me know if she needs anything. Iâll gladly ask someone to find a place for her to stay."
"Sir, sheâs already staying with me!"
"Thatâs why Iâm saying this."
DING!
At the right moment, the elevator rang, and its door slowly opened. Benjaminâs face soured again, feeling like Zoren was throwing jabs at him, and that ring was the end of the round.
"Itâs okay, Ben," Benjamin whispered to himself. "Itâs okay. Heâs still recovering and just regained his eyesight. So, let this one go as well â just this once."
DING!
Benjamin snapped back to reality when the door was closing again. He panicked, pressing the open button before catching up to Zoren.
"Ahem! Sir, are you sure weâre going to announce about Jonathan Pierson tomorrow?" Benjamin asked, out of pure curiosity, still not pleased that someone was claiming to be Zorenâs brother. "But announcing him would mean..."
Zoren halted, making Benjamin flinch. The latter nervously gulped, thinking if what he was hinting had offended his boss. There were only a few things that could offend Zoren: talking badly about his grandmother, and his father, or mentioning anything about his mother. The list might have been added with Penny and the Bennet family, but the first three remained.
"Announcing a secret half-brother is just the right thing to do," Zoren said, glancing over his shoulder. "Letâs just hope heâs going to be a valuable contributor to the family and the company."
After saying his piece, Zoren resumed his steps, where his bodyguards and cars were waiting for him. Benjamin, on the other hand, frowned slightly.
"Itâs not like I donât trust him, but sometimes... I get worried," Benjamin mumbled to himself before dragging his feet to the same car. But just as the bodyguard opened the front passenger seat door for him, Benjamin stopped and gazed up at the man holding it open.
Benjamin furrowed his brows before getting in, gazing at the person in the driverâs seat. "Huh? Who are you? Whereâs Angel?"
"Penny borrowed Angel from me for the time being," Zoren casually explained, typing on his phone to message his wife. "But she replaced him with someone who is just as trustworthy as him."
"I know the people from Prime Group are trustworthy, but Iâve grown more comfortable with Angel than Mark." Benjamin frowned, setting his attention back to the driverâs seat.
The person in the driverâs seat bowed a little at Benjamin. "My nameâs Mylo, Sir Vitt. Iâll be Sir Angelâs replacement until he comes back."
"Gee." Benjamin scrunched up his nose. "Youâre even more formal. Itâs no fun anymore."
The driver kept his mouth thin but didnât say anything, instead asking Zoren if they should go. The latter simply nodded, not paying attention to either Benjamin or Angelâs replacement because he was too busy sending heart stickers to Penny.
As the car started moving, Benjamin couldnât help but study the driver. He caught a glimpse of ink peeking from the manâs collar, as if the latter had some gigantic tattoos underneath that suit.
âIâve never seen him before,âBenjamin thought, studying the manâs side profile and then his knuckles. Each knuckle was tattooed with different letters that, if put together, spelled: [GHOST].
âHeâs a bit scary the more I look at him,âBenjamin thought, frowning deeply as he thought of Angel. âHe looks like some kind of thug. Well, I guess if Miss Penny sent him, that means she trusts him enough to let him protect my boss.â
In the end, Benjamin shrugged nonchalantly, telling himself that these bodyguardsâ main purpose was to protect Zoren, not make Benjamin comfortable. Therefore, even if Benjamin was a little bored, he could just ask Penny to pamper him a bit later. Besides, Benjaminâs cousin was in the city and would be staying at his place.
There would be a lot of fun ahead!
With that thought in mind, Benjamin smiled from ear to ear and filled his mind with happy thoughts. However, ten minutes into the ride, deep lines appeared on Benjaminâs forehead. He turned to the window side, noticing the view was just flashing by.
"Uh..." Benjamin turned to the driverâs seat and then to the backseat. He caught Zoren glancing at the window but didnât say anything. But that was why Benjamin was there. He set his attention back to the driverâs seat and glanced at the dashboard.
He gasped. "Hey! Arenât we going a little bit too fast?! There are two other people here who donât want to die! Slow down!"
"Canât."
"Huh?! Why canât you?!" Benjamin gasped. "This is not a race!"
"Because there are three people here who donât want to die," was all the driver said coldly, glancing at the rearview mirror before keeping his eyes on the road, driving at full speed to get rid of the motorcycle that had been following them since morning.
"Ugh!" Benjamin gasped again, holding on to the handle while squinting his eyes. "Oh, no... ugh... I take it back. I want Angel back in here! Miss Penny sent us a lunatic!"
As for Zoren, he glanced at the window again and decided it was better not to look. It would only make him dizzy. Besides, even if their car was speeding, it felt like a smoother ride. Their pace was consistent, and it didnât make enough impact even if they switched lanes. It only showcased the driverâs skill â it was better than Angelâs. As long as they wouldnât look at the windshield, they wouldnât notice just how fast they were going. Hence, he sent more hearts and some cute stickers to his wife, knowing the race would be over soon.
