Chapter 1072: Penelope Bennet, you are scaring me.
Pampered by my three brothers: the return of the neglected heiress
[BACK TO PRIME GROUP]
Finn nodded and sighed in relief, thankful that Penny was here to help him. Fortunately, he mustered the courage to bother her with such a trivial dilemma. If he hadnât, he knew he wouldnât get the clarity and encouragement he needed.
"Penelope, thank you is not enough to articulate my gratitude," he expressed sincerely. "But still, thank you. If you need anything from me, donât hesitate to reach out. Once I fully recover, things will be easier for you. Iâll deal with Jonathan myself... or race you to it."
Penny waved dismissively, still feeling proud of solving this problem for him. Perhaps she was truly gifted. How could she master love and relationships, even though she was also new to this?
"Itâs no big deal. Nina is my sister, so anything concerning her is my business," she replied magnanimously. "And about that jackass, heâs not going to do anything for a while. Heâll be too busy recovering from all his losses. The police raided the Information Center, but they werenât raided because of selling information, but because of the illegal gambling in it. Even so, thatâs still good enough for now."
"Oh." Finn shook his head, brows furrowed. "I havenât heard of that."
"I requested an information lockdown, so itâs not in the news. Even if there are articles about it, theyâre easily buried with First Brother and my dadâs articles. Didnât you see?" she smirked. "No one is talking about the âillegitimateâ child of Enzo Pierson."
"You were the one who got those articles released about your brother and father?"
"The first one, yes. But the rest? They just happened when people got wind of the situation." Penny shrugged nonchalantly. "As for Jonathanâs news now being able to surface, that would be someone else who probably cares more about the Pierson Corporation."
"Itâs Dean."
"Hmm?"
"Iâm certain itâs Dean whoâs blocking those articles from picking up traction," Finn remarked. "He might not be able to stop the articles from getting released, but he could stop them from reaching an audience."
Pennyâs mouth formed into an O-shape. "Well, thatâs surprising. I was thinking of someone or some people in the shareholders or the board, but I didnât expect it to be him."
"Penny, youâve spent twelve years with the man. You two practically grew up together, and itâs not even an exaggeration to say you spent more time with him than your brothers."
"But that doesnât mean I was paying attention to him."
"But Iâm sure you already knew that Zoren doesnât see him as a threat. If anything, Dean Pierson is someone he respects. Youâre aware that Zoren sent me to Dean, but itâs not just to monitor him â itâs to make sure he doesnât make any huge mistakes." Finn chuckled. "So far, Dean hasnât done anything that required my intervention."
He paused for a moment and then raised his shoulders a bit. "You might not be aware of this, but in the first life, Dean Pierson was one of Jonathanâs strongest opponents. At that time, although Zoren was still young, he had already announced he wasnât going to have a child. So, he just announced that heâd be choosing his heir within the family. Of course, that caused an entirely different ruckus within the family."
"But what I can assure you is that Dean was leading the game. You know him. Even though we excelled in class, we did better because the lessons at the Summit School of Excellence were already lessons we had covered in the first life. Yet, Dean was already number one without any memories," he continued in the same serious tone, very different from the one he was using during his love problems. "My point is, Dean right now is very different from how I remembered him. And that is because of you."
"Why me?" Penny scoffed. "That guy just does whatever the hell he wants and says things without even thinking twice about it."
At this point, Finn shouldâve realized that coming to Penny for love advice might have been the wrong decision. However, he was too blinded by the fact that he subconsciously wanted to believe her instead of thinking Nina would probably dump him. Hence, even when the red flag was waving right in front of him, he ignored it.
"Whatever you say, Penny," Finn shrugged. "Anyway, as for the DNA testing clinic where Jonathan got that result, itâs a legit clinic. One of the most sophisticated and trusted."
"I know. I did some digging. Though Renren already knew the clinic when he saw the result. Itâs why he didnât question it anymore."
"Questioning a clinic like that just calls for a whole ton of lawsuits."
"It is, but itâs still best to keep him around. Keeping him closer is better than dealing with him while he is hiding."
Finn nodded in silence before he looked up at her again. "Iâm sorry."
"Hmm? Why?"
"I should be helping right now, but I got myself hurt."
Penny smirked. "If youâre sorry, then you better recover quickly. I need you to be in your best shape. Otherwise, once Jonathan stops playing and decides to just go on a rampage, itâll be very dangerous for everyone, especially for you."
"No, Penny. Especially for you," he corrected. "Jonathan... is the most inhuman person Iâve met in my life. Zoren is one thing, but Jonathan? Heâs the most twisted man Iâve met. With all the attacks youâve launched at him, Iâm pretty sure all lines of fire are redirected at you."
"And that is the plan." Penny kept her gaze on him. "First Brother, my dad, and I will be on the front lines, so you and Renren can focus on recovering while Second Brother can move freely behind the scenes. You guys need to get better fast so you can tap in and switch when needed."
The corners of their mouths curled up slightly as the two of them stared at each other. This alliance was doing better than they both expected, which was a relief for both of them.
"Anyway, Pennyâ"
"Since weâre at it!" Penny cut him off when Finn seemed like he was about to leave. She pushed herself up from her seat, jumping onto the couch he was sitting on.
Finn furrowed his brows, checking their arm-length distance and the foxy smirk on her face. "Penelope, that look is starting to look familiar now."
"Hehe." Penny giggled. "Finn, since weâre at it and we also talked about love problems earlier, Iâm actually very curious about one thing."
"Hmm? What is it?"
Penny wiggled her brows as she dawdled. "Do you think Renren actually fell in love with me in the past?"
"Huh?"
"I mean, he married me."
"He married your corpse."
"He did." She nodded. "But... who knows?"
"Penelope, if someone told me that Nina married my corpse in the past, Iâd have mixed emotions about the reasons behind it. Perhaps Iâd be touched. But if I found out that she actually fell in love with a corpse, even if itâs mine, Iâd be very concerned," Finn stressed, but her brows still wiggled as if the answer she was looking for was a disturbing âyes.â
Finn was starting to get concerned until he heard her next remarks.
"Do you think, when we got married that time, he kissed me?"
Finn: "!!!" He looked at her wide-eyed, never in his life had he ever thought heâd be this shocked and petrified at someone.
"Penelope Bennet, you are scaring me."
