Chapter 1079: I don’t need another love rival in this story.
Pampered by my three brothers: the return of the neglected heiress
[SKYLINE PLAZA: Zorenâs]
In the residence study room...
"Uhhh..." Penny groaned in satisfaction as she stretched her arms and legs. When she felt relief in her muscles, a bright smile dominated her face.
"Done with work?"
Zorenâs voice suddenly caressed her ears, making her turn her eyes toward where the voice came from. There, in the entrance, was Zoren, leaning against the jamb. The moment their eyes met, he peeled his side from the jamb and walked over to where she was.
Penny grinned. "For today, yep!"
"Need help for the rest?" he offered, leaning on the side of the desk where she was. "I finished a lot of work in advance, so I can offer a hand."
"Itâs okay. Everythingâs under control." Penny giggled as she rose from her seat, casually prancing in front of him. Resting her arms over his shoulders, her eyes glimmered with joy. "Love life, is Big Brother giving you a hard time at work?"
"Not really. Why are you asking?"
"Well, youâre going on vacation a week after he officially takes the position," she said. "Knowing him, heâd give you a lot of assignments to do. Tch. Heâs vengeful. Iâm almost certain heâll give you hell before our vacation."
"I never thought Iâd say this word, but fortunately, Iâve been sick all my life. I guess thatâs why heâs more lenient. He even wished for us to enjoy the trip."
Penny narrowed her eyes suspiciously, but when she saw the sincerity in her husbandâs eyes, her mouth fell open. "Really?"
"Is that really weird of him?" he asked, now seeing his wifeâs reaction very clearly. He didnât expect this much, but now, it was clear to him that the Bennet siblings were so focused on each otherâs shenanigans that when they did something nice, they were suspicious.
"Well." Penny smacked her lips, but before she could respond, they heard a knock on the door.
The couple intuitively turned their heads toward the door, only to see Mylo walking in. Mylo lowered his head slightly before straightening his back, eyeing the couple without any trace of awkwardness despite their position.
"We finished the round check..." he reported monotonously. "Everything is clear."
"I see." Zoren nodded. "Thank you."
Mylo lowered his head and, without a word, left the study. Penny and Zoren kept their eyes on him even after he was out of sight.
"I didnât know you and Mylo would get along," she remarked after some time, beaming at her husband. "Heâs always been the quiet type. So, I was a little worried when I sent him to you."
"I like quiet... when itâs needed," he smiled back. "Now that I think about it, why did you send him to me?"
"Hmm?"
"I donât mind Mylo around, although Benjamin obviously preferred Angel around. Even so, Iâm a little curious." Zoren pulled his wifeâs waist closer, keeping her between his legs. "Why Angel? Of all the people you couldâve sent to look after Patricia Miller, why him?"
Penny blinked for a moment before the corners of her lips curled up into a smile. "Because... heâs kind."
"Hmm?"
"Angel is the kindest person Iâve ever known in my life," she clarified. "He might be fierce and annoying at times. Heâs too honest and has a foul mouth when heâs ticked off. But... he has a very big heart that is understanding, empathetic, and warm."
Her eyes softened as she thought about Angel, who wasnât only her trusted bodyguard to whom she would trust her life, but also her precious friend. Lifting her eyes to meet her husbandâs, her smile stretched brighter and broader.
"Had I mentioned before? Angel and I used to fight a lot â childish fights and even serious ones. I didnât like him simply because he was too annoying and because he was violent, having grown up in a violent environment. Heâs already part of a huge gang because of his parents, you know? And he doesnât like me either because of Uncle Wild. Weâre like fire and water," she shared, giggling at the memory of the past. "We hated each other so much that each time we saw each other, we only bore contempt for each other."
Penny paused, humming while smiling. "But then, that incident happened. Uncle Haines and I were abducted, and we almost died. If not for Uncle Wild coming to our rescue, I donât know if we wouldâve made it out alive back then."
"After all of that, Uncle Haines was in critical condition and I was spiraling into depression. I blamed myself for everything that had happened," she continued, smiling wryly at the thought. "Even now, I couldnât recognize that Penny. Or rather, I know her... and I know sheâs not the person I want to become."
"Itâs Angel who pulled me back to reality. Even with a cast on, he challenged me to a fight. It wasnât very kind, but somehow, I thanked him for that. I vented my frustrations on him, and he knocked some sense into me. We got a good scolding after that, but at the same time, I felt more clear-headed."
Penny huffed and smacked her lips. "My point is that Angel is short-tempered and would sometimes act like a rogue. But... heâs very kind. He could hate someone to the bones, but he would never laugh at their misfortunes. His honesty hurts, but at the same time, youâll know it hurt because it was true."
"Thatâs why I sent him to look after Patricia instead of Mylo or anyone else," she explained in a knowing tone. "I, for one, donât have the patience to deal with Patricia. Mylo wouldnât even budge if that woman tried to kill herself in front of him. He might even buy the rope for her. Itâs the same for Mark... so Angel is the perfect person for the job! Besides, he has a soft spot for girls! If bad things and intimation donât break her, perhaps just a little bit of understanding and kindness will work. Thatâs what I was hopeful for."
"I see..." Zoren nodded in understanding, smiling at her with pride, but then his eyes glinted. "About Angel... please send him to other places far away from here."
"Huh?"
He smiled until his eyes were squinted, but Penny could feel the ominous aura seeping out of his back. "I donât need another love rival in this story. Thereâs already too many."
"Ha ha... love life, I donât think youâve got any love rivals," she replied awkwardly, her face twitching when Zorenâs eyes were already on fire! âJust who were the love rivals he was talking about?!â
