Chapter 1116: Just like us?
Pampered by my three brothers: the return of the neglected heiress
Ta-da!
Zoren and Finn looked over the counter as they placed their plates, showcasing what they had prepared for their significant others. It was just a simple breakfast, nothing that took much time to make. But with the presentation alone, it almost looked like it belonged on a restaurantâs breakfast menu.
Zoren arched a brow, a little surprised by Finnâs plate. "Not bad."
"Not bad? Well, I guess it is, considering I barely prepared the easiest and simplest meal," Finn shrugged indifferently, flashing Zoren a smile as the latter looked back at him. "Although Iâm surprised the legendary CEO Pierson would cook for his wife."
"Why is that surprising? Iâm just doing what husbands are supposed to do for their wives," Zoren said, picking up the plate and heading toward the dining room. "Itâs the bare minimum."
Finnâs smile twitched slightly. "Are you insinuating something, Mr. Pierson?"
"Iâm speaking facts, but if it hits a nerve, maybe someone needs to step up their gameâor raise their standards."
"Haha..." Finn brushed off the comment with a laugh, but he had to admit Zoren was a bit annoying. He never expected Zoren to be like thisâas if Zoren would let anyone take away his title of CEO or anything except the title of being a good husband.
âOne of them is wondering if they kissed while she was a corpse, and this one...âFinn shook his head as he followed Zoren into the dining room with the plate he had prepared for his beloved Nina. âMaybe they are truly meant for each other.â
When they reached the dining room and Zoren took another look at Finnâs plate, he said, "I never thought you could cook this well, Mr. Davis."
"I enrolled in a culinary class. Thatâs why."
"A culinary class?" Zoren raised an eyebrow.
The smile on Finnâs face briefly looked arrogant, but then he remembered the real reason he learned how to cook.
"Whatâs the reason?" Zoren asked as he sat down, watching Finn take a seat as well.
"I learned it back then to impress Nina," Finn admitted.
"I see. I guess thatâs only natural if youâre determined."
Finnâs smile softened a little, tinged with bitterness. "But the reason behind it isnât as simple as that." He exhaled heavily, leaning back. "I learned to cook to impress her, not because I liked her. People call it love-bombing, but I didnât just do that. I made very calculated moves to make her mine."
"How I wish she wouldnât step in right now."
"Haha. Even if she did, that wouldnât be an issue," Finn chuckled. "I came clean with her."
"Oh?"
"If I wanted to start fresh, I had to confess everything to her," Finn clarified. "I canât keep fooling myself, and I canât stomach fooling her again. I donât want guilt to weigh down this relationship. Besides, my fiancée deserves the truth."
Zoren studied Finnâs calm expression, nodding slowly. He had to admit, this surprised him. Even though Penny had mentioned Finn a couple of times and would gossip about how Finn came to her for love advice, Zoren was still surprised to see it firsthand.
"It wasnât easy, but eventually, she forgave me," Finn continued, then laughed as he joked, "I think my condition helped a little. I got a bit of sympathy."
"She shouldâve made you crawl after her."
"I agree," Finn nodded. "I donât deserve leniency or mercy. Even now, I still feel like she should be more strict with me, more suspicious. But alas..." He lowered his eyes before an appreciative smile appeared on his face. "Sheâs right." He lifted his gaze at Zoren and added, "If I want to repent, the only way I can do that is by proving to her that my heart and intentions are sincere. I just had to show her that I deserved this second chance and never make her regret it. So, thatâs what Iâm doing. I donât want to waste this chance to love her."
"I guess... sheâs in good hands," Zoren remarked, offering Finn a respectful smile. "Iâm glad to hear that. Though, I still hope you keep her busy three hundred sixty-five days a year."
"Sheâs already a busy woman. Donât worry, Mr. Pierson. I canât say I donât like her leaving me for Penny, because Penny is her sister, but I do wish I could keep her all to myself. I just couldnât be selfish."
Was he saying Zoren was being selfish?
Zoren pondered that thought, reflecting on his own feelings to see if he was overdoing it. But then again, Zoren wasnât stopping Penny from meeting with others. He didnât hate it, but a big part of him wanted to make sure everyone taking his wifeâs time knew she was only his.
Was it really called selfishness?
"Though my setup with Nina is different from your setup with Penelope. So, please, donât misunderstand," Finn remarked, noticing Zoren seemed lost in thought. "Iâm sure your relationship is already better than it could be."
"It is," Zoren nodded confidently. "Weâre going to have quadruplets."
"Huh?" Finn furrowed his brows, surprised by the random comment. "That... thatâs uh... good, I think? Good luck."
"Thank you," Zoren smirked, as if certain he was getting closer to something. "Anyway, what was it you wanted to talk about?"
The moment those words left his mouth, Finnâs expression shifted. His eyes grew serious, and he leaned his arm against the table.
"I assumed Penelope already told you about... us?" Finn paused, studying Zorenâs reaction. "Though I was surprised she trusted you enough to tell you that, thereâs something I havenât told her."
"Arenât you two allies now?" Zoren frowned. "Why are you still keeping things from her?"
"Iâm not keeping things from her, but I wanted to make sure of something before telling her."
"And that is?"
Finn didnât answer immediately, his sharp gaze focused on Zoren. "Until I know for sure I can trust you. Penelope seems to trust you a lot, but I donât. Mr. Pierson, are you... just like us?" he asked, noticing Zoren furrow his brows. "And by that, I mean... did you also go back in time with your memories?"
