Chapter 123: What note?
Pampered by my three brothers: the return of the neglected heiress
The battle between Penny and Mouse ended in a draw. After eating so much, both of them fell into a food coma. Laying flat on the grass together, the other children couldnât help but look at each other quietly.
"Penny, are you okay...?" Yuri asked worriedly. "Snacks have arrived...?"
Pennyâs already dead expression died once more.
"Yuri, Penny canât even move because of how much she ate! How can you tell her about snacks?" Yugi spat out, making Yuri lower her head.
"I just thought that would make her feel better..."
Yugi shook his head while clicking his tongue. "If you want to make her feel better, get her a blanket and a pillow."
"How about Mouse?"
"Well, itâll be fine."
"I donât need anything." Penny looked up at the two. "Just eat with my brothers. Iâll be fine."
"I know youâll be fine, but my eyes wonât be!" Yugi pointed a finger at her. "Penny, you look like a mother pig with your piglet!"
"..." Hugo and Slaterâs breath hitched, looking at Yugi incredulously. They didnât know if they would feel offended for Penny or scared for Yugi. How could he say that so casually?
"Pen â ack!" Before Yugi could continue digging his own grave, the meek Yuri smacked the back of his head.
Yuri, who was usually the pushover, glared at her twin. "Yugi, how can you say that to Penny? Do you have a death wish?!"
"But Iâm telling the truth! Look at her!" Yugi gasped while pointing at his cousin on the grass. "Sheâs so white and pinkish! Her pink shirt isnât even helping!"
Penny glanced up at Yugi but didnât comment. Yugi would always be Yugi, she thought. And Yuri...
"Thatâs it!" Yuri huffed, and slowly tied her hair.
Seeing her action, Yugi took a step back. "Hey, Yuri... what? Why are you tying your hair? Iâm the big brother, you know? Yuri!" Before Yuri could finish tying her hair, Yugi knew he needed to run for his life.
The sister was angry, and when the sister was angry, it was the death of the brother.
That was how it always was.
In a blink of an eye, Yugi disappeared from his vantage point.
"Stay right there, evil brother!" Yuri was so angry she forgot Pennyâs brothers were still present.
Yugiâs response only made her blood boil even more. "Why would I? Iâm just telling the truth! Itâs you who cannot accept it!"
"Thatâs it!" Yuri harrumphed before she ran after him. "Donât make me catch you! Youâre dead!"
The twinâs voices echoed in the garden with Yuri warning Yugi while the latter tried to calm her down. But alas, every word that was flying out of Yugiâs mouth only had the opposite effect.
Slater and Hugo watched this, speechless. At the same time, Atlas and Nina stepped into the garden. Atlasâs eyes veered to the twins before he walked over to his brothers.
"Whatâs going on with those two?" he asked, watching his brothers look back at him. "You also have no idea?"
"Well, to make it short, Yugi said something stupid and is going to pay for it," Hugo explained, making it sound a lot better because Atlas might not like it if he heard the details.
"Penny, should we let them be?" Slater asked worriedly.
Penny hummed. "Donât worry about them. Theyâll be fine." Her lips curled up, closing her eyes while listening to the sound the twins were making.
Lying on the grass under such perfect weather and the sound of the twinâs banters brought her back to some good days of the past. It reminded her of how she raised these two little devils to become a proper human being.
âWhat a nice way to spend the Saturday afternoon,â
Slater blinked before he shifted his eyes to Yugi and Yuri. âSo they were this close, huh?â
Even the other two brothers were puzzled by the look on Pennyâs face. They also diverted their attention to the twins, gaining this newfound discovery. A discovery that filled their hearts with bitterness.
After witnessing Pennyâs interaction with the twins, it was now clear that they still had a long way to go. Yugi could say all the things he could say because he knew Penny wouldnât take it to heart. He was able to express his thoughts honestly without any fear of whether he would offend her or not. He could do all of this because his bond and relationship with Penny were stronger than a few carelessly spoken words.
The meek Yuri, on the other hand, also had different sides of her. She was normally silent and shy, but towards her twin, she was ruthless! To be honest, she was a little scary, especially right now that she finally caught up to Yugi.
The brothers cast each other a look before their gaze fell on Penny.
Nina, who was with them, frowned deeply.
âIâm already right here...â she clenched her teeth and clasped her hands until her knuckles turned white. Her shoulders trembled, darting her eyes between her brothers, who werenât even giving her a moment of their time.
Slater didnât even seem to notice her come with Atlas!
"Uhm..." Nina huffed and wore a sweet smile, waiting for her brothers to look down at her. "Big brothers, should we eat snacks together? Itâs been an entire week since weâve had some time together."
"Nina, even when youâre coming home here on the weekdays, we donât eat snacks since weâre mostly at school," Hugo replied coldly. "So, nothing really changed."
The smile on her face froze. "But we still eat dinner together."
"Iâll eat snacks. Iâm also hungry." Slater shrugged, not picking up Hugoâs blatant rejection of not just Ninaâs invitation, but also her.
Atlas rocked his head before he was reminded. "Right. Penny, Nina didnât find the notes sheâs borrowing from you. I think your frog chased her away. Next time, donât let others copy your notes unless thereâs a valid reason â Nina, included. Otherwise, theyâll slack even more."
"First brother!" Nina gasped in shock, as she didnât expect that Atlas would bring this up.
Penny, on the other hand, slowly opened her eyes and looked up to where they were. "What note?"
