Chapter 1351: Need to sell myself more
Pampered by my three brothers: the return of the neglected heiress
[Back to Prime Group]
Penny shrugged as she tossed her phone back into her drawer, about to get some work done when she suddenly remembered something. Slowly, she looked at the door and sucked her inner cheek.
"Did she stay?" she wondered. There was no way Patricia had remained outside, doing absolutely nothing..
Penny knew Patricia had no shame, with a pride taller than a mountain. She had been in her office for quite some time nowâsurely enough for Patricia to rethink her future.
"I do think I need an assistant," Penny mumbled. "Itâd be nice to have someone tell me when someoneâs waiting in my office. The shock value just disappears. And maybe someone to remind me of other things."
Everyone was amazed that Penny managed everything without an assistant, especially considering Prime Group was continuously growing. More growth meant more work. Even with Yugi and Wild in the company, it still wasnât enough. The two had been so busy that they could no longer assist Penny with certain tasks.
"Still, not her." Pennyâs face soured. "That woman... even her job ad had a watermark. Also, how the hell did she think making a poster herself was going to cut it?"
She shivered at the thought, knowing hiring Patricia for such an important position was a badâno, a terrible idea. Not just because of Patriciaâs suspiciously clean portfolio because Patriciaâs been jobless her entire life, but because they didnât even like each other! And if Penny put up a job ad, people would flock to Prime Group to apply as her assistant. There were plenty of better and qualified candidates for the job.
"Meh." Penny shrugged. "Iâll just let her wait. Maybe sheâll leave once she gets bored."
And yet, Penny wondered why people kept barging into her office when she, herself, was so lax.
Even so, she pushed Patricia out of her mind and got back to work. There was still a mountain of things to do, and Penny wanted to finish as much as possible so she could have plenty of time to bother her husband... or Atlas.
---
Meanwhile, right outside Pennyâs office...
Patricia cupped her face in her hands and stared at the door.
"This is so boring," she mumbled, glancing at the computer screen in front of her. A solitaire game was openâthe very game she had been playing while waiting for Penny.
Penny had told her to wait because she was going to hire Patricia. Or at least, thatâs what Patriciaâs selective hearing chose to remember.
"I wonder what sheâs doing inside?" she mused. "Her aunt and mother already left, didnât they?"
Patricia cupped her face with both hands, swinging her feet as she hummed a tune to kill time.
"What do secretaries even do, anyway?" she wondered aloud. "Aside from her obvious problem of not knowing whoâs in her office?"
She narrowed her eyes before a sudden panic crept into her heart. Sitting upright, she looked around cautiously before casting Pennyâs door a wary glance.
"I need to sell myself more," she muttered, only now realizing that she was applying for a position she knew nothing about. "Otherwise, sheâll fire me."
Glaring at the CEOâs office door, she muttered, "Knowing how hateful she can be, Iâm sure sheâll think of plenty of excuses to fire me."
And Patricia refused to let that happen. If she was going to be fired, it would have to be for a real reason.
Her enthusiasm and determination were truly impressive. Unfortunately, she wasnât even hired yet.
So technically, Penny couldnât fire her.
But then again, Patricia wasnât wrong. Penny could be incredibly spiteful and might just fire Patriciaâs existenceâwithout ever hiring her in the first place.
With that in mind, Patricia quickly pulled up the internet and started watching some not-so-reliable short videos on how to be a proper assistant.
---
An hour later...
Knock, knock.
Bzt... Bzt...
The faint knocking on the door and the loud vibration of Pennyâs work phone happened simultaneously. Picking up her phone, Penny glanced at the doorâcompletely forgetting about Patricia.
Only when the door carefully opened and Patricia peeked her head in did Penny remember Patriciaâs entire existence.
"I brought you some tea, considering youâve been working so hard~" Patricia whispered sweetly, smiling as she tiptoed inside with a tray.
Penny narrowed her eyes at Patricia before realizing that the buzzing of her phone had stopped. Checking the missed call, she clicked her tongue.
"Shit," she muttered, immediately calling back her client. This was far more important than Patricia right now. "Mr. Owen, itâs me. You were calling?"
As Penny listened to the person on the other end, she glanced at Patricia, who was carefully placing the tea on her desk.
"Uh, yes!" Penny nodded, refocusing on the conversation. "No, no, absolutely not. Thatâs impossible. However, if youâre concerned, I can send someone to take a look at your system. Yugi is quite busy at the moment, but donât worryâthe person I will send wonât disappoint. Have we ever?"
While Penny remained absorbed in her call, Patricia took a step back and puffed out one cheek.
She watched as Penny ignored her entirely.
Pursing her lips, Patricia quietly nudged the tea a little closerâjust a tiny bitâbefore smiling to herself. Her gaze flickered to the dumplings she had bought as a snack for Penny. She nudged them closer, too, nodding in satisfaction.
Without saying a word, Patricia turned on her heel and tiptoed out of the office, giggling to herself.
According to what she had read, a proper assistant should make their bossâs job easier while also avoiding unnecessary interruptions.
And in Patriciaâs mind, she had just completed her first mission with flawless perfection.
---
Meanwhile, Penny was still on the phone. Out of boredom, she absently reached for a dumpling and took a bite.
The moment the flavor hit her tongue, her brows lifted in surprise. She glanced down at the tea and dumplings in front of her.
âThis is good,âshe thought, nodding her head as she continued snacking while listening to the call. âWow. I really do need an assistant â just not Patricia. She brought too little. Now, Iâm even hungrier.â
