Chapter 1388: I’ll be a good boss
Pampered by my three brothers: the return of the neglected heiress
"Wait! Miss Miller."
Patricia stopped in her tracks just as she stepped out of the building and turned to look at the person calling her. Rushing toward her was Shawn Lowie, the first applicant in their group.
"Oh, hey there!" Patricia smiled, raising her brows as she blinked at him. "Whatâs up?"
Shawn, a rather large guy, sighed as he offered Patricia a small smile. "About back there... thank you for what you said."
"Huh?" Patricia tilted her head. "What did I say?"
"I mean, your recommendation," he clarified, his smile turning wry and almost apologetic. "I didnât expect you to say my name. After I messed up that third question, I was sure I didnât have a chance anymore. But after everything you said... even if I donât get a call back, I think Iâll be fine."
Patricia blinked. Then blinked again.
All she had done was say what she thought. To be honest, she hadnât meant to encourage himâshe had simply answered the question. And yet, looking at this big guy, she felt a strange tingling in her chest.
It wasnât unpleasant.
Slowly, her smile widened until her teeth showed. "Hehe. Of course, you should thank me! Haha! Iâm the only one who saw your talent, after all! Wahaha!"
"..."
Shawn nearly took a step back as Patricia erupted into a maniacal laugh. He had already thought she was a little... eccentricâif that was even the right wordâbut right now, she seemed like a completely different person. Even so, he found himself smiling in relief.
At the end of the day, Patricia had given him hope, even if she wasnât aware of it. Or rather, even if that wasnât her intention.
"Youâre blocking the way."
A sudden voice made them both turn. Teddy had just stepped out of the building, his usual composed demeanor intact. Unlike the two of them, he didnât lingerâhe simply marched ahead.
"Hey!" Patricia called after him. When he stopped and glanced back, she pointed at herself with a grin. "Arenât you going to thank me?"
"Why would I thank you?"
She frowned. "Heâs thanking me for picking him, but I picked you first! That was nice of me, wasnât it?"
"..." Teddy simply stared at her before shaking his head and continuing on his way.
"Gosh..." Patricia clicked her tongue, pouting as she watched him go. "So ungrateful."
Beside her, Shawn nodded. "Heâs a bit arrogant, yeah. But then again, heâs also really smart and brilliant. So, I guess that backs up his arrogance."
"Well, whatever." Patricia shrugged, then flashed him a smug smile. "Once I get a call back, Iâll call you, okay?"
"Oh..." Shawn hesitated. A small part of him still wanted the job, but he sighed faintly and shrugged. "I guess Iâm not cut out for the role. But office work in the CEOâs office isnât so bad."
"Hey," Patricia said, happily pointing to herself with her thumb. "Donât feel bad. This secretarial job is meant for me. Itâs not about your qualifications or anythingâitâs just fate."
"Oh... kay?"
"But donât worry," she added, winking. "Once Iâm hired, Iâll be a good boss to you."
For a second, Shawn was speechless. He wasnât sure if it was because of Patriciaâs absolute conviction that sheâd get the job or because she didnât seem the least bit worried.
"Iâll be praying that you get it," he said in the end, laughing awkwardly.
"You should! Itâs a win for both of us!" Patricia beamed, as if manifesting her success right then and there. Her smile stretched even wider as she thought about it.
Watching her sudden burst of excitement, Shawn furrowed his brows. "Miss Miller, you seem really happy."
"Of course I am," she said, smirking. "It feels like I did something really remarkable today. Iâm not sure which one, though, because, well, Iâm always amazing. But... hehe."
She paused, blushing. "...Iâm really happy."

Some time later...
[Prime Group: Penthouse]
Yugi strutted into the penthouse of the Prime Group building and spotted Penny lounging on the couch. She was idly resting her jaw on her knuckles, staring off into space. When she noticed him, she raised a brow.
"There are three girls in the bathroom," Yugi said, smacking his lips as he perched on the armrest of a chair, his gaze on Penny. "One of them was stuck in a stall. Turns out, the other two tried to lock Miss Rogers inside so she wouldnât make it to the interview. But Patricia, who just so happened to be there, locked the two of them in instead."
"I reviewed the CCTV footage," he added with a shrug. "I disqualified the two who tried to sabotage their competition. We also gave Miss Rogers a chance, and surprisingly, sheâs impressive. Hardworking, smart, and well-spoken. Sheâll be good at handling short-tempered guys... like you."
Penny let out an airy laugh. "I know."
"You know sheâs a good candidate? Or you know Patricia wasnât wrong?" Yugi tilted his head. "Penny, just out of curiosity... did you know Patricia Miller would be able to answer that questionâthe one that only a few people got right?"
"Hmm." Penny hummed, tapping her fingers as she thought. "Sheâs nosy, that woman. So, Iâm not surprised if she spent her time eavesdropping on conversations in the waiting room."
Yugiâs brows lifted. "Does this mean... we got our pick?"
"You think thatâs all it takes to replace you and Uncle Wild?" Penny narrowed her eyes, making Yugi chuckle.
"Alright, Iâll call them for the final interview," he said, standing. "Also, about that guy, Shawn Lowie."
"What about him?"
Yugi exhaled. "Honestly, I wasnât impressed. If it were up to me, I wouldnât call him back. But I still need to hear your thoughts."
Penny pondered for a moment. "Iâm curious about what Patricia sees in him. Give him a call... and put down the job ad. Iâm satisfied with what weâve seen so far. I donât think weâll find anyone better."
"Alright." Yugi nodded, about to leave before he turned back. "Penny, are you staying here tonight?"
"What makes you ask that?"
"That wine." He pointed at an unopened bottle on the mini bar. "Itâs out. Which means youâre thinking about drinking it."
A slow smirk curled Pennyâs lips. "I havenât decided. But I might."
"Are you sad? Or is this a drink for a celebration?"
"Itâs a drink to hopefully remember something," she murmured. "Quite ironic, isnât it?"
"It is." Yugi nodded before walking away. "Donât drink too much."
As his figure disappeared, Pennyâs smirk faded. Slowly, she turned her gaze to the bottle of wine.
"No matter how much I rack my brain, I just canât remember everything," she whispered. "But the other me... might."
