Chapter 1413: How could these two be so lucky?!
Pampered by my three brothers: the return of the neglected heiress
[SKYLINE PLAZA: ZORENâS]
"So, these people are officially hired, huh?" Zoren held Penny in his arms as they idly lounged on the couch. His gaze remained on the résumés in her hand, which she was showing him.
Penny looked up at him. "What do you think of them?"
"Nothing," he replied before his dark eyes shifted to Patriciaâs résumé. "Although, I am surprised you ended up hiring Patricia Miller."
If it had been up to Zoren, Patricia would be goneâdisappeared somewhere in the wild where no one could find her. After what she did to him months ago, he wouldâve punished her far more severely. If not for Penny, that punishment would have already been carried out.
Surely, his wife make him a better person.
"I know, right?" Penny clicked her tongue, snapping her eyes to Patriciaâs profile. "But, well, I already meddled in her business, so I had no choice but to hire her in the end."
Penny hadnât originally planned to hire Patricia. The woman amused her, but not enough to justify giving her a position. Though Patriciaâs enthusiasm was admirableâespecially considering she usually reserved it for vile and selfish deedsâit wasnât enough.
That was why Penny hadnât thought much of it when Grace mentioned in passing that sheâd seen Patricia at the courthouse. So why did she hire her? Because of how things played out today. Besides, Penny was becoming more and more intrigued by Cassandra.
By keeping Patricia, she knew there were endless opportunities to cross paths with the woman.
In a way, Patricia could consider this the luck of a lifetime.
"Even though I said that, are you really fine with it?" Penny asked, studying Zorenâs face. "If you havenât forgiven her, I can still change my decision."
Zoren smiled and shook his head. "Itâs your company, Penny. Who am I to interfere?"
"Youâre my husband."
"A husband who believes in and trusts his wife," he returned just as quickly, his smile widening. "Itâs alright, Penny. Whether Iâve forgiven her or not doesnât matter, as long as she doesnât burden you anymore."
"Hehe." Penny giggled, squeezing herself against his side as she glanced at the papers in her hand. "Look at this one."
She showed him Hayleyâs résumé. "Impressive, isnât it?"
"Is it?" Zoren skimmed through the file briefly before giving his wife a look. "If you were a man, do you think youâd consider her a love interest?"
"What?" She blinked. "Renren, thatâs so random. Didnât you see where she used to work?"
"I did, but Iâm more curious about this matter."
"Oh." Penny puffed her cheeks, studying his ever-unchanging expression. Was this a trick question? She pondered for a moment before grinning. "If I were a man, Iâd still bend for you."
Zoren narrowed his eyes while Pennyâs grin stretched until her eyes were mere slits.
"Anyway," she continued, brushing past whatever thought was brewing in his mind, "Yugi and everyone approved of her. If she hadnât skipped all those steps, theyâre sure she wouldâve made it in somehow."
"This guy, however..." Penny hummed as she moved on to Shawnâs résumé. "Iâm still not sure why I hired him, to be honest. He is big, but also, the biggest coward Iâve seen."
"Is it because you were intrigued?"
"Hmm?"
"You said Patricia Miller had a few good words about him," Zoren reminded her, nodding toward the résumé. "So Iâm guessing thatâs why he made it."
Penny thought about it before shaking her head. "Itâs true I wanted to see him in the final interview, but I wasnât planning to hire him. Not when Yugi wasnât confident in him, and not when he failed the standard job interview."
"I guess it was out of pity, then," Zoren muttered, bitterness swelling in his heart as he glared at Patricia and Shawnâs résumés. "If he hadnât gone out of his way to help Patricia Miller, heâd be looking for another job right now. Heâs lucky."
How could these two be so lucky?!
Zoren was genuinely pleased that Pennyâs department at Prime Group now had more peopleâit meant less work for her. But at the same time, he couldnât help feeling bitter that these four had no idea how fortunate they were to work so closely with his wife.
That was... his dream.
"Well." Penny shrugged indifferently. "I guess he is. Haha. My people are so lucky! I hope they bring that luck to the company."
Unaware of the curses forming in Zorenâs mind, Pennyâs brows shot up as her eyes landed on Teddyâs résumé. She plucked it from the pile and set the rest aside.
"This one, though, I like." She held it up for Zoren to see, snapping him out of his daze.
Zoren slowly refocused on the résumé, catching sight of the huge question mark in the middle of the page. Heâd noticed it earlier but hadnât given it much thought.
"Heâs the one Yugi Cortez poached himself?"
"Mhm!" She nodded with a laugh. "Yugi said he found him in the new neighborhood where he rented a small space to hide from Aunt Jessa. Apparently, he first saw him reading an interesting book, then later helping some local kids with their homework. Though Iâm sure thereâs a lot more that piqued Yugiâs interest than he told me, but Iâm glad he did. This Teddy Arthur is working as a cashier in a convenience store right now, just because itâs the most decent job he could find at the moment. Heâs also doing a lot of side gigs to provide for his little brother with special needs."
Zoren raised a brow, scrutinizing Teddyâs photo. "He doesnât look like that kind of guy."
"Haha, I know, right?" Penny laughed. "If youâd seen him during his interview, youâd think the same. Iâm actually impressed. Heâs the only one who impressed me."
"Is that so?" Zorenâs eyes lit up as he mentally burned the word Impressed into Teddyâs forehead in the photo, as if marking him already.
"Mhm. Itâs sad that someone like him is being held back just because certain people donât like him," she sighed.
At first, Yugi had been simply curious about Teddy, which led him to run a background check. Once he got the results, he went to the convenience store just before Teddyâs shift. He then deliberately left a job advertisement outside, in plain sightâright where Teddy would notice it.
In simple words, Teddy was the only applicant, who was invited to apply for the job.
