Chapter 1427: Just want to brag
Pampered by my three brothers: the return of the neglected heiress
Minutes ago...
"Those four..." Atlas trailed off as he sat down, noticing how Benjamin, Allen, and even Zorenâs ears perked up. Pausing, he leaned back and casually snapped his eyes to Penny. "They donât look reliable."
Zoren nodded faintly, while Benjamin smirked. Allen, on the other hand, simply looked away, wanting no part in this. Although he was still bitter that Penny had already chosen her assistant, he knew that if he valued his life, heâd have to let it go.
Allen didnât even want to start on how his life had been hell since handing over that resignation letter to Atlas.
"First Brother, arenât you being a little judgmental?" Penny frowned as she paused from pulling something out of her desk drawer. "Those four were chosen carefully."
"Were they?" Atlas, not believing a word his sister said, turned his attention to Zoren.
Zoren didnât react, sensing that his wife was looking at him as well. "I trust my wifeâs judgment."
Atlas shrugged, reading Zorenâs true message behind his words.
"Miss Penny surely hired some impressive people for the job!" Benjamin, standing just behind Zorenâs seat, exclaimed. "Although thereâs not much to expect, I just hope theyâll be able to do the job well."
"Thatâs right." Penny nodded as she refocused her attention on the desk drawer, unaware of the face Benjamin was making.
Benjamin then cast Allen a look, making the latter raise his brows.
"What?" Allen mouthed, watching Benjamin tip his head. Realizing Benjamin wanted him to back him up, he quickly shook his head. "No, no!"
Allen still wanted to live!
"So, are they just going to work in administration?" Atlas asked out of curiosity. "And Patricia Miller... Penny, have you lost your mind?"
His voice was as cool as ever, but his words were blunt as always.
Penny rolled her eyes as she walked back to join them on the set of couches. She then tossed a handful of papers in front of Atlas, saying,
"To be honest? I havenât thought of that. I needed one assistant, but then Yugi proposed that one person wasnât enough to shoulder everything. So, I ended up hiring four."
"So it means you didnât think about it??"
"I did." Penny laughed, noticing the doubtful looks everyone was giving her. Although she wasnât sure what kind of look Benjamin and Zoren were giving her, she assumed it was doubt.
It was hate.
Benjamin and Zoren had both wanted the job, but Zoren wasnât even allowed to retire. And Benjamin wasnât allowed because his boss, apparently, would rather die than have him work for Penny. With this turmoil brewing in their hearts, they could only pour their frustration onto the innocent new hires at Prime Group.
"You donât believe me?" Penny huffed before she pushed herself up and walked toward the door. As soon as she opened it, her eyes searched for Mark. "Call those four. Tell them to come in here."
Mark glanced at Penny and, without a word, nodded. He was aware that the four new hires were currently being criticized for no real reasonâor, if there was one, it was a pathetic one. Mark knew this because Benjamin had been bombarding his phone with messages, venting his frustration about Zorenâs selfishness and greed.
With that, Mark left to call the four, while Penny turned back to the others. She crossed her arms under her chest, smirking.
"Since you guys are so doubtful of me, Iâll introduce them to you," she announced proudly. "And since you mentioned their role, I just thought of something."
Atlas arched a brow, while Zoren maintained a calm demeanor. Benjamin, on the other hand, sneered. This day wouldnât end without those four realizing that if not for Benjamin, they wouldnât have gotten the job.
Why?
Because if Benjamin had been allowed to resign, he wouldâve gotten this job in an instant. No doubt about it... or at least, thatâs what he believed.
As for Allen, curiosity shone in his eyes. He wanted the job, assuming his life would be a lot more laid-back. But just as the thought crossed his mind, a shiver ran down his spine. Slowly, Allen turned his head, only to see Atlas giving him a sharp side-eye.
âWhat now?!â Allen mentally lamented. âCan he read my thoughts now?! Iâm notâIâm not going to resign ever again! Please, forget all about it. You donât have to forgive me anymore!â
Meanwhile, Penny sat down on the single-seater couch again, jerking her chin toward the papers. "While we wait, want to check this document first?"
Atlas raised his brows, his eyes falling on the papers in front of him. Picking them up, he passed a copy to Zoren across from him. As the two carefully reviewed the documents, a knock came at the door.
The moment the sound reached them, everyone paused. Atlas and Zorenâs brows twitched slightly, while Benjamin put on his game face. As for Allen, he cautiously glanced at his boss.
âWhy does he look angry too?â Allen wondered, his face turning a bit sour. âDonât tell me he wanted to be his sisterâs assistant?â
Little did Allen know, it was far from that. Atlasâs mood had dropped for one reason: those four werenât needed at this moment. He was reading.
"Come in," Penny called, smiling as the door opened. The first person she saw was Teddy, followed by Hayley, Shawn, and then Patriciaâwho was clearly hiding behind Shawnâs large frame.
As Teddy and the rest walked in, they instantly felt a suffocating pressure settle over them. His instinct told him to lower his head, but he caught himself. He represented Penny. Therefore, he fought off the urge, walking in politely but confidently.
Hayley, on the other hand, felt a little hostility in the air. Her eyes briefly scanned the men insideâtwo seated across from each other, with two standing nearby. Sheâd heard of Atlas, so she quickly assumed Allen was his secretary. However...
âI wonder who that person is across from him,â she thought, glancing at Zoren and then at Benjamin. âAnother executive from the Pierson Corporation? Or someone from another big company?â
Either way, Hayley kept her back straight as she stood beside Teddy. Shawn, meanwhile, maintained a meek demeanor. He, too, had questions in mind, but he was certain heâd eventually get his answers. As for Patricia, she tried her best to remain hidden and avoid making eye contact with anyone.
"MaâamâI mean, boss, you called for us?" Teddy asked, trying to ignore the intense atmosphere in the room.
Penny flashed them a smile, nodding as she raised her brows and darted her eyes between Atlas and Zoren.
"Yes. I wanted to brag. See? They look capable. I told you!"
