Chapter 1508: What did you think having children was?
Pampered by my three brothers: the return of the neglected heiress
If Yugi were to describe this feeling, it would be strange. Having Zoren in his office was something Yugi hadnât imagined. Zoren might have visited Prime Group more often than one would expect, but he always had one destination: Pennyâs office.
This was the first time Zoren had come into Yugiâs office.
"What... did you say?" Yugi pushed himself up to sit, his eyes fixed on Zoren. "You... what?"
Zoren exhaled heavily, trying to contain the growing displeasure in his heart. One could count how many times Zoren had gotten angry in his life, and none of those moments had ended well. Only when Penny came into his life had he been able to find the peace he never thought he would have.
Still, this situation was upsetting.
"I came today to cheer up my wife because sheâs had a lot on her mind since last night," he explained. "However, when I arrived, her assistants were already in her office, sharing a feast. I know I should be glad that she was not upset anymore, but... I am."
Zoren should have been the one in there, not them.
"..." Yugi blinked several times, studying Zoren in disbelief. âI know Penny told me heâs affectionate, and Iâm convinced he is because he often makes time to visit his wife.â
But...
The more Yugi thought about what Zoren had just said, the more his face twisted. "So, thatâs why youâre here?"
"Itâs wrong to kick four people out of the company," Zoren remarked without hesitation, his face serious. "I donât mind if you transfer them to a different department. Or better yet, send them to Pierson Corporation so Prime Group doesnât have to pay salaries to four extras."
Yugi was speechless again. He tried to say something but ended up closing his mouth.
This was ridiculous.
"Uh." Yugi massaged his forehead, trying to process it. "Wait. Let me be clear. Youâre asking me to hire you as Pennyâs assistant?"
"I will replace those four. Iâm certain I can do all their workâten times more efficiently."
"And I donât doubt that, but what about Pierson Corporation?"
"First Brother can take my place," Zoren answered without a second thought, locking eyes with Yugi. "Initially, I had a lot of hesitation. But I just realized today that if I love someone, I should fight for them."
"..." Yugiâs face twisted, now regretting his earlier invitation to "come in."
"Calm down," he sighed in defeat. "Letâs talk about this first, alright?"
As Yugi offered that, he suddenly felt a strange sense of familiarity. It felt like déjà vu. After all, not long ago, Yugi had been a little surprised when the Bennet Brothers started crowding his office because they couldnât find their sister.
Now, I somehow understand Penny, he thought. Itâs kinda scary having these unexpected visits that arenât related to the company.
*****
Yugi and Zoren werenât really close. They knew each other, but aside from today, their only interactions had been brief greetings. However, Penny constantly mentioned her husbandâmore like bragged about him.
So, Yugi had an idea of what kind of husband Zoren was.
Even so, he didnât believe everything Penny said. Why? Because he couldnât imagine Zoren worshipping his wife. Zoren might be affectionate, but the image most people had of him was still different.
But today, Yugi couldnât help but think one thing:
Penny might be wrong, he thought. She didnât need to brainwash this guy.
Zoren would stab himself in the heart if thatâs what his wife wanted.
Yugi shook his head, listening to Zorenâs worries over a cup of tea. At this point, Yugi didnât need coffee. This entire conversation was enough to keep him awake.
"Ahh..." Yugi rocked his head, eyes on Zoren. "So thatâs the problem, huh?"
Zoren nodded and sighed. "Thatâs right."
"Well..." Yugi cleared his throat, trying to come up with a reassuring response. If not, he might just have to expect a change in the CEOâs department, knowing Penny was a bad influence and would surely accept the idea of having her husband as an assistant.
Yugi might not have any emotional attachment to those four in the CEOâs department, but he just couldnât bear the thought of them ending up working for Atlas. After all, Allen was barely clinging to a thread.
While Yugi thought about it, his brows suddenly furrowed. Looking back at Zoren, he tilted his head a little.
"Uh, Mr. Piersonâ"
"Zoren."
"Right. Zoren." Yugi cleared his throat. "I know this might sound a little strange, but Penny mentioned that your goal is to have quadruplets?"
At this, Zorenâs mood lightened slightly. "That is correct."
"Well, this is a bit strange for a coincidence, but donât you think this might just be preparation for you?" Yugi hesitated, choosing his words carefully. Of course, he knew he was being ridiculous right now.
Even if Zoren and Penny wanted quadruplets, that didnât mean they would just get them.
Zoren raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean by that?"
"I mean, youâre clearly the most affected by Penny having not just one assistant, but four. But then again, once the blessing comes, and she ends up pregnantâletâs say with the quadruplets youâve been praying forâthings arenât going to be the same," Yugi explained. "Having children isnât as simple as creating themânot for those who are lucky enough to have them. I donât have children myself, but from what I know, they take a lot of their parentsâ time."
Yugi shook his head. "And babies are naturally closer to their mothers. So Pennyâs time and full attention might just shift to them completely."
"..." Zoren remained silent, his lips pressed into a thin line. "Really?"
"Yes," Yugi furrowed his brows. "What did you think having children was?"
"I was thinking I could teach them how to convince their mother to stay with me longer."
"..." Yugiâs face contorted. "Hah... well, youâll still go through a phase where theyâre vulnerable and need 100% attention and care. Youâll only be able to teach them later in life."
And what Yugi meant by that was, perhaps, when their "quadruplets" turned into teens. Or worse, adults.
