Chapter 673: Are you, really?
Pampered by my three brothers: the return of the neglected heiress
Meanwhile, in the Prime Group...
"He was where?" Penny arched a brow at Yugi as they both walked toward her office.
Yugi shrugged. "Went to see Nina, thatâs what they said." He rolled his eyes, frowning deeply at Penny. "Penny, why are you even sending people to watch and protect him? I donât understand. That guy broke our sisterâs heart. He doesnât need protection. If anything, I was expecting you to break his heart literally in four!"
"..." Penny pressed her lips together and didnât say anything, trying her best to ignore her cousin. If she were to respond, all she could probably say was, "I know, right?"
But even if she explained it to Yugi, he wouldnât understand. If anything, he would only ask more questions until she felt like ripping her hair out. Therefore, to save herself from the trouble, she remained quiet.
Finn was an anomaly; he could be a great ally and someone who could ruin her plans. Until she was sure she could trust him even a little, she would keep him at armâs length while making sure he stayed alive until she decided what to do.
"Penny, I smell something fishy," Yugi grumbled as they approached her office. "Thereâs something youâre not telling me, am I right? Are we keeping secrets from each other now?"
This time, Penny stopped in front of her office, her hand on the knob as she faced him. "Yugi, Iâm fine. Nothingâs fishy..." she trailed off, sniffing hard as she suddenly caught a whiff of smoke. "But I smell something burning."
"Step asideâ" Yugi stepped in, pushing her to the side as he reached for the door. He could smell the smoke too, and it seemed to be coming from her office.
"Call for a firefighter, just in case..." he stopped as soon as he opened the door, waving a hand in front of his face as the smoke inside was thick. "What theâ"
Yugi coughed, snapping his eyes toward the office, only to see someone grilling fish inside. "Uncle Wild?!"
Talk about something fishy.
"Oh! Itâs the two of you! Come, letâs eat while my catch is still hot!" Wild was seated on the sofa with a small barbecue grill on the coffee table.
Penny and Yugi stood at the entrance, staring at the jolly old man grilling in her office. Yugi shook his head in disbelief.
"Penny," he called, eyes still on Wild. "How come your office doesnât have a fire sprinkler?"
"The installation... is taking its time, thatâs all," she mumbled. But the truth was, she was in a hurry to start operations, and everything else was to follow. That was why there were still some workers in the building to complete everything the building needed.
"You better get them installed soon. The penalties in Anteca are crazy." Yugi then stepped inside, smiling brightly to join Wild. "Uncle Wild, I didnât know you were coming to the office today!"
Wild smiled back at him. "I also didnât know!" His smile, however, twisted a bit when his gaze landed on Penny. "Penny! What a good day to see you!"
"Uncle Wild..." Penny laughed awkwardly, going straight to the window to open it. She waved her hand out the window until the smoke inside the office thinned.
"Hehe." Wild chuckled, leaning back and holding the fish on a stick. He cast Yugi a look, but the latter simply raised his brows innocently.
"Uncle Wild, whatever made you angry... you know Iâm innocent, right?" Yugi maintained a smile, his words not faltering even though they all sounded as if he was sacrificing Penny to save his own skin.
Penny rolled her eyes upon hearing that before turning around to face them with a smile. "Uncle Wild, Iâm so glad to see you."
"Hah!" Wild snorted, looking at her in dismay. "Are you, really?"
"Of course!"
"Then why didnât you tell me the address of the office when I asked you where it was?"
"..." Pennyâs face stiffened while Yugi scrunched up his nose.
"She didnât tell you?" Yugi gasped in disbelief. "But Uncle Wild, didnât I tell you where it was? I even asked if I should pick you up!"
"I was waiting for her reply â for Peteâs sake!" Wild snorted grumpily, making Yugiâs face contort.
Surely, Penny was sometimes unreasonable, but no one could ever beat Wild at it. It was still amazing how Wild and Haines got along so well, even though Haines was a man of reason while Wild was the complete opposite.
All this time, Yugi thought Wild wasnât ready to start working again, since he had been working tirelessly at the previous headquarters. Who would have thought the reason Wild hadnât come to the office was that he was waiting for Pennyâs message?
âI will stay out of this,â he told himself. âThis is something I do not want to get involved in.â
With that thought in mind, Yugi mentally erased Penny and Wildâs existence and took one of the fish on a stick to eat.
Meanwhile...
"Uncle Wild, why are you saying that?" Penny cleared her throat, leaning against the desk. "Please donât take it to heart. I probably missed your message."
"Missed my message? Girl, you never miss my messages and calls!" Wild squinted at her. "You were hiding from me, werenât you?"
"Why would I hide from you?"
"I donât know! You tell me!"
Penny pressed her lips together, telling herself, âHe heard about my head injury... or maybe my marriage!â
"I donât know, Uncle Wild." Penny shrugged and walked toward them, casually picking up the fish on a stick while standing to the side. She grinned at Wild and said, "Itâs nice to see you again, Uncle Wild," before taking a huge bite.
Wild frowned and sighed, shaking his head after seeing that she looked fine. Thus, he didnât bring up the head injury he had heard about and casually ate some grilled fish he had cooked in her office. Just like that, the three minds behind the success of the Prime Group reunited to continue to shock Anteca.
