Chapter 685: Briefcase
Pampered by my three brothers: the return of the neglected heiress
Meanwhile...
Allen was humming a tune and even dancing to the music in the car while driving slowly. Today was a good day because Atlas was in a good mood. Not only that, but according to Atlas, Penny had handed him an important security software, which they installed and tested today.
The tech guy told them it was amazing.
However, since the system was new and their time was limited, all they managed to do was protect their database. There was still a lot of work to be done since the software was complex, but once it was done, it could cover the companyâs entire security system. Its completion would be tomorrow. Moreover, Atlas wanted to present it at the meeting the next day. It also came in handy for the investor meeting Atlas had that day. But best of all, Allen had received a raise.
"Hehehe!" Allen giggled. "Even though my raise is solely based on my bossâs mood, I got a raise! Hehehe! What a good day for me and for all of us!"
His eyes shone with excitement, and he promised himself that he would use his entire life to make Atlas happy. After all, if Atlas was happy, then Allen would be ten times happier with a loaded bank account.
"Surely, working for him is the best decision Iâve made," he told himself, nodding. "Also, thank God Miss Penny is a blessing in this world. Sheâs the best!"
As he thought about how Pennyâs return to Anteca impacted not just the business world but also Atlasâs mood, he felt more appreciative. Just then, the music in the car paused as an incoming call came through. Glancing at the monitor on the dashboard, he pressed the answer button.
"Hey, babe!" Allen greeted with a big smile on his face.
"You sound like youâre in a good mood." A womanâs voice came through, chuckling as if she had quickly caught his mood. "Did something good happen?"
Allenâs mouth stretched from ear to ear. "Hehe. Babe, should we eat out tomorrow?"
"Hmm?"
"I reserved a table at a fancy restaurant. My boss recommended it to me, telling me I should take you there. Should we go there?"
"Tomorrow night?"
"Yes."
"Well..." A chuckle was heard from the other end of the line, displaying her excitement at the abrupt invitation. "Then, tomorrow it is!"
Allen grinned from ear to ear. "Iâll drop by your place. Do you want anything?"
"You will? Then can you buy me an ice cream?"
"The usual?"
"Yes, please!" the woman almost squealed. "Do you want anything? Have you had dinner? I can make you something."
"Iâll buy us chicken wings, so donât tire yourself, okay? Iâll be right there."
"Okay~"
With that, Allen chuckled as he ended the call, feeling even more excited to see his girlfriend. On his way, he quickly spotted a convenience store, so he pulled over to get her favorite ice cream.
Minutes later, Allen returned with a plastic bag containing two tubs of ice cream. He placed it on the front passenger seat, furrowing his brows as he noticed that his briefcase was nowhere in sight.
"Huh? Did I forget it?" Allen looked at the back seat, checking if he had tossed it back there. However, it wasnât there.
His briefcase contained some important files and work he planned to review tonight. He realized he probably left it at his desk. Well, this wasnât surprising since Allen had left his briefcase at the company a few times before.
"I should just go to the office early tomorrow," he muttered to himself, shrugging as he restarted the car to buy some chicken wings and head to his girlfriendâs place.
On the way, however, Allen kept tilting his head from side to side.
"Uhh..." he groaned, a little bothered for a reason he couldnât quite place. It wasnât as if the briefcase contained confidential information. He had never been bothered when this had happened before, but for some reason, he couldnât stay still tonight.
Was it because he had just pledged to make Atlas happy?
Although Atlas was not a big fan of making his people work overtime if it wasnât necessary, Allen wanted to go the extra mile. Moreover, if he was bothered, it would be best to just come back for it, right?
"I havenât gone far," he told himself, moving his car to the other lane so he could make a turn. "Iâll just get it for my peace of mind."
With that thought in mind, Allen made a turn and drove back to the office. Soon, he reached the company, stopped in front of the building, and stepped out.
"Sir Allen!" As he reached the entrance of the building, the security guard called out to him. "Sir, why are you back? Did you forget something?"
Allen smiled at the security guard, who had been working here longer than most. "Yes. I just came back to get it since I havenât gone that far."
"Oh, do you need help?"
"Itâs fine." Allen shook his head. "What are you doing here? Werenât you stationed in the parking area?"
"Hehe. I took a short break since my partner is already there."
"I see... very well!" Allen grinned and was about to leave when the security guard suddenly asked a question.
"Uh, by the way, Sir Allen, Sir Sven came to get the rest of his stuff," the security guard said with a grin. "He said the big boss told him to get his things."
Deep lines appeared between Allenâs brows as he squinted. "Sven Bennet?"
"Yes, sir!" the security guard nodded. "He said the big boss knew about it. He came late because I guess... he doesnât have the face to show to everyone. Poor guy."
âNo, I donât think so,âwas what Allen wanted to say, but he managed a smile. "I see. Thanks for letting me know."
Allen tapped the security guardâs shoulder before marching away. As soon as he turned his back on the security guard, he furrowed his brows in confusion.
âWhat is he doing here?â he wondered. âAs far as I know, his desk is cleared. Sir Atlas didnât tell me about this either.â
Even so, Allen didnât want to think too much about it. After all, no matter what happened, he didnât believe Sven was capable of doing anything terrible. Sven might be insecure and foolish, but Allen didnât think he was foolish enough to sabotage everything when Sven had already known oneâs consequences.
However, when Allen was close to his office, which was right next to Atlasâs and connected by a door, he saw Sven stepping out of Atlasâ office.
