Chapter 924: What is wrong with all of you?!
Pampered by my three brothers: the return of the neglected heiress
"Penelope Bennet, do you know who killed Zoren Pierson?"
"Who killed Zoren Pierson?"
"You should watch your Second Brother, especially. You thought he was dead, but no, he wasnât. Otherwise, Zoren Pierson and Finn Davis wouldnât have a hole in their heads."
Jonathanâs words were those that one shouldnât even think about, let alone reconsider. Everything that came out of that manâs mouth wasnât trustworthy. However, Penny had to admit that what he said bothered her. It was a tiny bit of unnecessary irritation, but she couldnât shake it. As she walked down the aisle, she stopped and punched the door on her side, causing it to echo with a loud bam..
"That motherlover..." she hissed through her gritted teeth, her eyes gleaming with malevolence. "How dare he bring up some nonsense just to rile me up?"
Penny stretched her neck and scoffed, massaging her nape as if that would calm her down. "I shouldâve punched him in the face at least once." She clicked her tongue, pulling out her phone to dial someoneâs number.
But just before she pressed *call*, she stopped and sensed someone approaching. Arching an eyebrow and glancing back to see who it was, deep lines appeared between her brows.
"Oh, itâs you," she remarked casually.
Slater stopped a few steps from her and studied her face. "Are you okay?"
"As far as Iâm concerned, I wasnât the one who was tossed to the ground. So, yep, Iâm okay!"
"..." Slater opened his mouth but ended up closing it. All he could do for a moment was study his little sister, noticing that she was acting a bit strange.
âNow that I recall, Penny was acting strangely too some time ago,â he thought, remembering the time Penny had let her alter ego take over. He didnât think much of it, even though she had been bombarding him with selfies that he had compiled into an album.
But then, everything had suddenly stopped, and Penny had returned to her usual self. Back then, he assumed it was because Penny had just had enough and decided to put a stop to it. He thought she had been doing it for "revenge," to get back at him for bombarding her, only to give up because it genuinely made him happy.
"Penny, do you have... an alter ego when youâre drunk?" Slater blurted out, confused. "Back then, you also smelled of alcohol and acted strangely. Moreover, First Brother, and now Second Brother and my brother-in-law, all had this strange look on their faces when you chugged that drink. Is there something wrong with you when youâre drunk?"
"Uh... yeah."
"Huh?"
Penny blinked. "I get possessed when Iâm drunk. Slater, I havenât told you this, but I actually have a third eye."
"What?"
"I can see spirits, and sometimes, I can talk to them. On rare occasions, they can possess my body."
"Penny, what are you talking about?"
"Of course, they canât just possess my body without my permission. They have to ask nicely. Even so, I choose who can possess me. There are certain criteria, and I only lend my body to good spirits."
"..."
"Ghosts and spirits are two different entities, by the way. Spirits are pretty harmlessâjust sometimes troublemakers," Penny added, smiling at him innocently.
Slater could only stare at his sister blankly. "You donât want to talk to... me? Penny! How could you be so cruel to me?! Itâs wrong to think youâre not alright!"
Penny rolled her eyes, crossing her arms under her chest. "If youâre going to cry, add some tears. Otherwise, I wonât feel sorry for you."
"Youâ" Slater almost vomited blood as he gasped at this bratty sister. "Why are you suddenly acting like a spoiled brat?"
"I am possessed."
"No, youâre not."
"Believe whatever makes you happy and at peace," she shrugged. "But seriously, if youâre going to cry, do it with real tears."
Slater frowned, biting his bottom lip, squeezing out the last moisture from his eyes. He was being dramatic, but often deliberately so. Why was she suddenly asking him to cry real tears!?
"Geez. Do it like this." Penny took a deep breath and closed her eyes. After a few seconds, she opened her eyes, and tears quickly formed in the corner of her eyes.
"Oh." Slater blinked, his mouth falling open at the sight of the tempting tears about to fall from his sisterâs eyes. When the tears finally fell, he instinctively clapped in awe. "Wow."
Penny sniffed and dramatically wiped her tears, before her poker face returned. "See?"
"Penny, how can you do that?"
"Duh? I went to singing lessons, dancing lessons, music lessons, and all the other lessons, including acting, just for you," she clicked her tongue and glared at him. "I should be the Superstar, not you."
Having said that, Pennyâs short temperament quickly reached its end. She unfolded her arms and walked over to him, pushing him to the side to make way for herself.
"Seriously. I could give him some coaching lessonsâhis acting skills are terrible," she mumbled to herself, shaking her head. She stopped when she caught sight of someone at the end of the hallway. When she looked up, her face twitched.
Hugo was standing there, catching his breath. It seemed to her that Hugo had simply stopped at the end of the hallway to briefly think about which way to go. Sweat made his shoulders glisten, as if he had been running, his chest moving in and out heavily. Even though she could only see the side of his face, she could tell he looked concerned.
When Hugo turned his head in her direction, his worried expression stiffened.
"Uh..." Penny cleared her throat and turned her back on him, facing Slater again. She flashed her third brother a smile, making Slater raise an eyebrow in curiosity.
"Third Brother~" she called sweetly, only to hear Hugoâs loud, echoing voice from behind. At that second, Penny quickly jumped to where Slater was and grabbed his hand. "Third Brother, you know that Iâve always liked you, right?"
"Huh?"
"Please help me." Without waiting for Slater to process her remarks, she grabbed his arm and pulled him behind her. She tossed him aside like a mere obstacle to buy herself some time and then sprinted away.
"Penâack!" Slater, who was caught off guard, found himself sliding backward until Hugoâs hand grabbed his shoulders to stop him. Looking up, Slater furrowed his brows. "Second Brother...?"
His words drifted into the air as he saw Hugo clench his teeth before pushing him back and running after Penny. This time, no one was there to catch Slater, and he dramatically fell to the floor.
"Ackâ!" Slater winced, looking up to see Hugo running through the hallway after Penny. "What is wrong with all of you?!"
