Chapter 941: I think it started
Pampered by my three brothers: the return of the neglected heiress
[Present Time]
Finn waited for Nina in the greenhouse, seated in one of the intricate garden chairs. Looking at the empty spots, a short smile turned up on his face. Perhaps it was because he had almost died that he now had a new appreciation for everything in life.
"I didnât go to the same school before," he whispered, thinking about how his life had changed the moment he chose to attend this school instead of going elsewhere. Now, he had some memories to recall and smile about.
Even without Penny in the Star Section, it was fun and peaceful. Sitting here reminded him of those peaceful days when they would just idle in the greenhouse, a privilege the Star Section students had earned. But regardless of those memories, he liked the present better because of his relationship with Nina.
Not long after, Finn heard the chime ring and turned his head. He immediately smiled, placing his hands on the armrest to push himself up. However, just as he rose to his feet and caught sight of Nina, he furrowed his brows upon seeing the look on her face.
"Finn!" she called, rushing to him.
"Is everything okay?" he asked worriedly, assessing her face.
Nina pressed her lips together, her worry evident. "Grandpa... had a heart attack. I want to go there."
"Iâll go with you."
"No." She shook her head. "Iâll drop you off and get you settled. Iâll come back with you."
"..." Finn didnât answer, a gut feeling telling him that this news wasnât something natural. A huge part of him hoped it was simply a result of Chairman Bennetâs old age. However, another part of him knew deep down that this might be something different.
"You told me to be honest with you," he whispered, reaching out to hold her hand. "Stay with me for now."
"Finn, even if Grandpa isnât my biological grandpa, heâs still someone important in my life. I canât just leave Penny and my brothers when they need me," she argued, only to see his face crumple a bit. A shallow breath slipped past her lips as she squeezed his hand lightly. "Iâll be back with you. Donât worry. Iâll just check on my family. Please donât ask me to choose."
"Iâm not asking you to choose between your family and me. Iâm just... being honest."
Nina sighed helplessly. "I know."
---
In the end, Nina still decided to go and be with the Bennet family. She knew she should stay with Finn and make sure he was fine. However, the Bennet family was also her family. Even if she had chosen to use the Reed family name, she was still a Bennet at heart.
With that, Finn and Nina headed to the parking lot, where they saw Yugi waiting for them.
Yugi sat in the driverâs seat while the couple sat in the back. Glancing at the rearview mirror, he noticed the worry in Ninaâs eyes.
"Yugi, can you stay with Finn for a while?" she asked after a prolonged silence, watching Yugi glance in the mirror again. "I need to go to Penny."
Yugi didnât respond immediately, earning a look from Finn. "Stay with him."
"Yugi, my dadâs father had a heart attack!" she intoned. "Even if I canât do anything, itâs only right for me to be there."
"They wonât need you there."
"Yugi!"
Yugi maintained a cool reaction, eyes on the road. "Nina, right now, focus on your boyfriendâs health. Help him recover. Do things one at a time. Youâve been juggling between work and nursing him back to health. I donât want you to end up in the hospital too."
"Yugi, Iâm just going to check on everyone. Theyâre family."
"And this family would want you to be in good shape as well. Donât worry them â donât worry me, and donât worry your sick boyfriend."
Nina frowned, upset by Yugiâs adamant refusal. It wasnât like she was asking him to drive her to her destination.
"Iâll check the situation for you," Yugi offered in the same tone, making her raise her brows. "Nina, like you said, the Bennets are family. But so are you. The least we can do as a family is not add to their worries. Iâm sorry if I sound strict."
Hearing this, Nina calmed down a little. She pressed her lips together, eyeing Yugi, then casting a look at Finn.
"I think heâs right," Finn nodded at her. "You should rest as well. Iâm sure the Bennets know that youâre on their side."
Another shallow breath slipped past Ninaâs lips, and she reluctantly nodded. Initially, she felt a little displeased that Yugi was making it sound like her presence in the Bennet familyâs affairs wasnât necessary. She knew she had too little influence in the family, considering that Atlas was the head of the family, Penny had a big company with Prime Group, Hugo was a powerful military figure, and Slater was a powerhouse in the entertainment industry.
However, hearing Yugiâs humble apology made her realize he had a point. In this situation, the least she could do was not add to the Bennetsâ worries.
"Visit them tomorrow," Finn advised, watching her look up at him. "When everyoneâs had enough rest and when the emotions arenât so high anymore. Perhaps, send them a message now. They might not see it immediately, but Iâm sure a word of encouragement would do."
"I will." She nodded and sighed again. "No wonder they left the reunion so suddenly."
As Nina mumbled and tried to make sense of everything, Finn slowly lifted his eyes to the rearview mirror. Yugi was staring ahead and glanced at the mirror when he sensed someone looking at it.
No words were spoken between the two men, but seeing the look in Yugiâs eyes, Finn knew something was up. It also confirmed Finnâs suspicion that whatever was happening in the Bennet family was not as simple as a heart attack.
Finn snapped his eyes back to Nina, sighing heavily. âI think... itâs started.â
