Chapter 67
The Hidden Princess At All-Boys Alpha Academy
Chapter 67
I stand back, looking confusedly between Rafe and Jesse. âWhat?â I ask my brother and my cousin,
âwhatâs so funny?â
âAri,â Rafe says, shaking his head at me as he puts a hand around my elbow and tugs met towards the
door. âNot hitting on your friends? That has never been a rule.â
âThat has always been a rule!â I gasp, staring up at my brother.
âWell,â he says, grimacing at me a little. âThen that is a rule which Jesse has never followed.â
âWhat!?â I snap, trying to spin and stare at Jesse but hauled along by Rafe. âWho â who have you hit
on?!â
âWho havenât I hit on?â Jesse replies, still grinning at me, wicked.
âJesse!â I shout, truly scandalized and betrayed. âAnnie? Rebecca? Padme!?â Jesse just grins. and I
gape, looking up at Rafe for confirmation.
âHe hooked up with them all too,â Rafe informs me, dry.
I let out a loud screech of protest, spinning to stare at my cousin, who just shrugs at me like he couldnât
help it.
âYou bring around these nice girls, Ariel, who fall for all my lines!â Jesse exclaims, holding out his
hands and shaking his head like he couldnât help it. âPretty ones too it is like a buffet. And you expect
me to do nothing!?
âStop making out with my friends, Jesse!â
âNo, donât make me promise that itâs my favorite hobby â
â
âJesse!â I lash out, trying to smack him, but Iâm too far away. Rafe sighs, hauling me further
towards the door.
âDid you seriously make out with Annie and Rebecca?â I call over my shoulder, desperate.

Jesse just shrugs, innocent. âSomeone had to do it, Shrimp.â He clasps an honorable hand to his chest.
âI was happy to fall on that sword.â
I just growl and turn away. Rafe sighs and grabs the door handle.
âWait, what about Theresa!?â I shout, spinning to look back at Jesse.
âOh my god, Theresa!â Jesse groans, throwing himself on the couch. My jaw drops as he covers his
face with his hands, moaning like heâs mourning the loss of something beautiful heâll never have again.
âTheresa is a freak
I let out a scandalized gasp, but Rafe just tugs me along.
âA freak in the best possible way, cousin!â Jesse shouts after me just before the door snicks. shut. âThe
best possible way! Rafe can tell you, too!â
âOh my goddd,â I moan, glaring at my brother, whose cheeks blush a guilty pink. For the next ten
minutes as we wend our way through the halls I pepper him with questions. He answers everything I
want to know about Jesse, but doesnât confess any of his own sins.
âFine,â I growl when we finally get to Daphneâs door, crossing my arms and glaring up into. his face.
âBut this one is off limits, okay?â
âOkay, Ari,â Rafe says, nodding to me with a smile. âI can make that promise for myself, but Jesse?
Donât hold your breath waiting for him to agree to it.â
âSo rude,â I mutter, reaching out to knock on the door.
Rafe and I stand quietly while wait, and I hear a set of footsteps inside. Then, the door swings open.
âHi!â Daphne says, beaming at me. âWelcome, I ââ
But her face falls when she looks up at my brother standing next to me. Her mouth makes a little âoâ as
she stares at him.
âHi,â Rafe says, giving her his best Prince
his hand. âItâs nice to meet you, Daphne âfe, Heir to the Throne smile and holding

âItâsâ¦um, hi,â she says, reaching out to shake his hand and smiling up at him nervously. raise my
eyebrows in surprise she handled herself beautifully with Jesse. Honestly, Iâm at little shocked by this
reaction to Rafe. âI mean,â she says, blushing as she takes her hand away, âitâs a pleasure to meet
youâ¦.your highness.â
âPlease, call me Rafe,â he says, smiling at her warmly, a little used to people reacting this way itâs been
the same since we were kids. He moves on with the conversation so that she has a chance to find her
feet again. âWill you send word up when you and Ari are finished with your visit? I can come back down
and ââ
âOh, no need,â she says, and Iâm glad to see her relaxing a bit. âI can walk Ari back up to vour
room.â
Rafe just quirks an eyebrow like he doesnât believe either of us can protect the other for a second.
Daphne, coming back to herself as the moments pass, just smirks at my brother.
âIâve been walking through this castle alone for years, sire,â she says, putting her hands on her hips.
âAnd not once have I been accosted.â
âOh yeah?â Rafe asks. âWhatâs your secret?â
âPepper spray,â she says with a shrug, making both of us laugh. âNo, but really,â she continues with a
grin, âservantsâ corridors. Honestly, weâll be fine.â
âAll right,â my brother says with a nod, surprising me. I didnât expect him to agree to that so easily I
guess our little twoâsecond chat earlier really hit its mark. He turns to me then. âHow long do you
think?â
â
I shrug, looking over at Daphne. âAn hour? Maybe two?â
âLetâs make it two,â she says, wrinkling her nose at me. I grin and nod to Rafe, who sketches a little
bow and turns away, waving over his shoulder.
Daphne gives a little squeak of excitement, pulling me into the room. âOh my god,â she says, pressing
the door shut behind us and leaning back against it for support, âthat was Rafe Sinclair! At my door!â
I laugh, shaking my head at her. âDonât be so impressed â itâs just Rafe,â I say with a shrug. âPlus,â I
gesture to myself, âNationâs princess! Right here!â
âOh, I know,â she says, laughing and grabbing my arm, tugging me over to the bed and gesturing for
me to sit down. âBut youâre not nearly as hot as he is.â
1 squeak in dismay, standing up straight at the offense.
Daphne just rolls her eyes at me as she crosses the little room. âYouâre very pretty, Ariel, but you just
donât do it for me.â She reaches up to a shelf and grabs a bottle of wine as well as two small glasses.
âCan I persuade you?â she asks. âI know itâs technically illegal but,â she shrugs and gives me a hopeful
look.
âAs long as you promise not to tell my brother,â I say, eyeing the bottle â because honestly, a glass of
wine sounds fantastic right now.
âAs long as you promise to dish,â she counters, laughing as we both sit down on the bed. Daphne pulls
her bedside table close and pours us each a glass of red wine.
âDish about what?â I ask, taking the glass she offers me and leaning back against the pillows. I grin,
pleased that itâs so instantly easy between us. Daphne â I feel like Iâve already known her for years.
But, I guess that makes sense, when someoneâs carrying your deepest darkest
secret.
âAbout everything,â she sighs, smiling warmly at me. âI want to hear all about your week, and about
how no one else has figured out youâre a girl â
ââ
âBecause boys are idiots ââ I say, taking a sip of my drink and humming lightly with pleasure at the
velvety taste.
She laughs, and nods. âYes, tell me all about the boys.â
âDaphne,â I say, sighing, âas the only acknowledged girl in this
Castle, you could have your pick of the boys. You know that. So why do you need me to tell you all
about them when you could just go knock on any door you want and have him kneel at your feet,
spilling hist guts?â
âBecause,â she sighs, a low and devastated sound, âIâm abstaining.â
âWhy?â I ask, grinning.
âBecause I have dreams,â she groans, shaking her head like itsâs a great sacrifice to give up
boys for the sake of your ambitions. I smile then, recognizing the feeling, especially
considering that all I want to do is hurl myself at my mates. But I, too, am abstaining. Or, at least Iâm
trying to.
âWhat dreams?â I ask, wanting to know more wanting to know all about her, frankly.
âAll of them.â she sighs, smiling at me and leaning forward. âI want a big life, you know? I want to do
everything â feel everything, see everything, touch everything, taste it. I want to do it all.â
My smile deepens as I consider my friend, swept up a little in her verve for life. âWhatâs stopping you?â I
ask quietly, sipping more of my wine.
âMoney,â she says, giving a chagrined little shrug. âWeâ¦didnât grow up with much.â
I nod, listening, my mind going back to Jackson who Iâm starting to think might come from a similar
world. âWell, what does that have to do with boys?â I ask. âWhy does that make you âabstain, as you
say?â
Daphne just gives me a long, slow grin.
