The phone continued to ring and Maurice’s words came back to Eliana.

Jonathan had asked Maurice to apologize to Eliana on his behalf.

At last Eliana answered the phone.

“Eliana,” Jonathan replied hesitantly in a soft, husky voice, “I didn’t expect you to answer my call.”

After a moment of silence, Eliana answered, “What do you want?”

“Don’t worry. I just wanted to say goodbye to you. I’m going abroad soon. You don’t need to worry

about me coming to your wedding and causing trouble,”

Jonathan explained, making fun of himself.

“Oh… All right then.”

Eliana had mixed feelings. She knew that Jonathan had saved her for another reason and then lied to

her.
