Chapter 1017
A Life Debt Repaid
Zoe knew it-she had been celebrating too early.
Jayâs upbringing was even more refined than hers, and he would never know his vegetables.
âYou donât know?â she asked nonetheless, refusing to give in.
âKo-ree-an-duh,â Jay suddenly replied.
âNot âcorry-underâ?â Zoe exclaimed.
Jay smiled visibly and adoringly just then. âPretty sure it isnât.â
âAre you sure?â
âYep.â
âYouâre sure I wonât end up on a clip where Iâm flamed for being an insult to mandatory schooling?â
Jayâs smile broadened. âYouâre being paranoid. Not many would use â coriander* anyway-you can check the live comments when the episode is broadcasted too. I bet you that eight percent of average netizens wont even spell it right.â
âThat makes me a little more confident, but do you actually know what it is? â Zoe asked. âIâm more concerned about not getting ingredients for dinner than being flamed.â
âActually, coriander is another name for parsley,â Jay explained.
âOh, is that what it is?!â Zoe exclaimed in surprise. âWait, why would they call it coriander?â
âThe production crew is messing around.â Jay chuckled.
âThose monsters!â Zoe huffed.
âCome on, letâs get it,â Jay said and picked up Zoeâs basket as if it was natural, adjusting the weight before heading to the farm.
Zoe watched as he left, her eyes unusually moist just then.
But she must admit that she was touched-he was the one who had a lame leg, but he shared her burden anyway.
She quickly ran after him, holding out a hand and offering support.
Jay glanced at her, smiling even more obviously in return.
He liked it when she got close to him on her own will.
âWhy do you know so much, Jay?â Zoe asked as she plucked a tuft of parsley when they found it.
âItâs common knowledge.â
âAre you saying I donât have that?â Zoe snorted.
âIâm kidding.â He smiled. âI used to read books on plants and remembered that without knowing it.â
So he was insinuating that she did not read much!
âDonât pluck too much. A pinch would be enough since you donât like it.â
Zoe felt warmth unfurling in her heart just then-Jay really remembered everything.
After they were done gathering Zoeâs vegetables, they saw Cora approaching them just then.
âWhat are you doing here, Uncle Jay?â Cora exclaimed in surprise.
âThe production crew never said anything about us not being allowed together,â Jay replied. âI came over once I was done with my tasks⦠Wait, whereâs Bob?â
âProbably still over there,â Cora was obviously upset, jealous that Jay was always doting on Zoe.
âMr. Parker? Theyâre distributing the meat over there now. You wonât get any if you donât go,â one of the production staff reminded him just then.
âJust go. We need the meat after a hard dayâs work,â Zoe quickly urged.
Jay handed her basket to her. âWait for me to come back if youâre too tired to carry it.â
âIâm not that weak.â
Jay smiled and turned to leave.
With that, Zoe was suddenly left alone with Cora.
Talk about things getting really awkwardâ¦
However, they pretended to get along well anyway for the sake of the cameras.
âAre you done with your tasks?â Cora asked.
âMore or less. What about you?â
âMe too,â Cora replied.
âDo you know the vegetables?â âNope. Most of it was guessing.â
