Chapter 1059
A Life Debt Repaid
Jay could tell that there was a hidden meaning behind Cordyâs words, but he did not dare contemplate the possibility of a miracle.
Cordy did not say anything further.
Some things belonged to John alone. Given their relationship right now, she had no right to say anything further.
âCongratulations to you.â Cordy changed the subject.
Jay was stunned for a moment before flashing her a smile.
Of course, he knew what Cordy was congratulating him for.
â Regarding things between you and Zoe, I initially didnât hold out much hope, thinking that you two would eventually pass each other by. Turns out that heaven is fair after all. Lovers do end up happily ever after,â Cordy looked up at the bright moon hanging in the night sky and said with a smile.
âI still find it unreal now,â Jay said rather shyly, âSomething that I never dared to even dream of happened just like thatâ¦â
âYou deserve it,â Cordy affirmed.
âThank you.â Jay smiled.
It was a smile that felt like a spring breeze, conveying the sense of happiness that arose from the depths of his heart.
True love would always find its way to show itself.
âItâs getting late. We should head back, or Zoe and Patrick might end up blacking out on the dining table,â Cordy joked.
âSure.â
Jay did not ask her any further.
They were merely long-time friends with warm affections and concern for each other.
The two of them went back inside.
Zoe, who was high from the alcohol, was standing on her chair and drinking straight out of the bottle.
Patrick, as a man, could not refuse to drink.
Seeing Zoe down the alcohol with gusto, he did the same as well and emptied the bottle in one go.
Right after he did so, it was clear that he could not hold it in.
But for the sake of his pride and dignity, he forced himself to swallow the alcohol down his throat.
Cordy walked over to him. âStop drinking.â
âCordy, you canât be biased toward your boyfriend!â Zoe was upset. âItâs so rare for us to gather for a meal and youâre such a busy woman, heaven knows when our next gathering will be. We must drink till we drop tonight!â
âYouâre already drunk.â
âWhoâs drunk?â
âPatrick.â
âIâm not drunk-burp!â Patrick belched. âI can still drink.â
âLook, look, he says that heâs not drunk⦠burpâ¦â
âDrunk people will never admit that they are. Weâll have a chance to gather again next time.â Cordy shot Jay a glance.
Jay nodded, and he sat down on his wheelchair.
In one swift move, he hauled Zoe up in his arms.
Zoe shrieked, âWhat are you doing, Jay Parker?!â
âIâm bringing you back.â
âI want to drink some more.â
âBe good!â
âYou cant be so selfish.â
âZoe.â
âYouâre being fierce to me!â Zoe looked indignant.
âBe good. Youâre drunk and youâll get an upset tummy.â
âIs your heart aching for me?â Zoe began chuckling.
Jay pursed his lips.
They were still in the private room and everyone was staring at them.
âI wonât go if you donât reply me,â Zoe said stubbornly.
Jay said in a low voice, âYes.â
âAre you lying to me, Jay?!â Zoe said with a look of disbelief.
âIâm not.â
âYou are.â
âWhy would I lie to you? I donât want you feeling bad from drinking too much. It aches my heart,â Jay said with a tinge of exasperation in his voice.
Zoe stared unblinkingly at Jay.
She did not mean that.
