‘Why did you come back here?” Nana exclaimed in surprise, though she understood at the next instant.

“You cant get out, can you?”

John did not answer, though he might well be admitting it with his silence.

‘Why did you think I helped you, Lucas?” she demanded tearfully. “Would what you take really destroy my family?”

She was also keeping her voice as soft as possible, in fear that anyone outside would hear her.

Even if she really wanted to murder him right then, she was still too soft to do it.

‘How far are you going to go, Lucas? Is Cordy really worth the trouble?” Nana asked, bewildered. “Is there anything about me that does not compare to her? Can’t you just spend your days with me in peace?”

‘I won’t lie to you.”

’I don’t mind. As long as you’re with me, I don’t care that your heart belongs to someone else. And I’m confident that you would fall for me eventually.”

’In the past, maybe. But now that Cordy has appeared, no one can take her place,” John said bluntly.

’What is it about her that attracts you? I can change! I’ll change my face so that I look at her, alright?”

‘You don’t have to bend yourself backward, Nana. Losing yourself in love is selfish, not noble.” John remained indifferent.

‘Selfish?!” Nana laughed in irony. “So what if I am? Aren’t you selfish too?! No, you’re actually savage!

What right do you have to destroy my family just so you can be with Cordy?”

‘You forced my hand.”

‘Just because I loved you? You had to destroy me and my family?’

‘No, because you would never spare her,’ John said bluntly.

Nana did a double take, but she quickly denied it. “No, I won’t. As long as you’re with me-“

‘You would want to kill her even if you felt a hint that I don’t love you,’ John said, cutting her short. “I’m no machine-l have feelings, and I can’t lie as well as you do.”

Nana bit her lip but did not deny it.

She was never going to trick him.

‘So you’d give up on your own life for Cordy, just to destroy my family?”

‘You should never have held any expectations for me,” John said coolly.

‘Yeah.” Nana laughed in irony again and snapped icily, “Why should I, when you don’t care about my family! If you love Cordy so much, you can have it your way! You drove me to this, Lucas!”

And with those words, she strode out of the room and yelled, “Lucas Lynch is here!”

Yes.

Why should she ruin everything for a man who did not love her?

She should make him wish he was dead!

On the other hand, John calmly accepted Nana’s reaction-he never expected to get away when he returned.

Nana allowed him to leave the first time out of reflex, since her feelings for him were genuine.

He was betting on that since she would still be drowsy from sleep.

He never expected Nana to buy time so that he could leave, and he only wanted to seize the window to hide the documents.

And he returned, just so that he would not owe Nana.

Letting her kill him with her own hands just might quell her spite.

At the next instant, a crowd charged into Nana’s room, while Doug’s face fell when he saw John.

’What is he doing here, Ms. Lynd?”

’I don’t know. Ask him yourself,” Nana replied, not giving a damn anymore just then.

Since Lucas wanted to go that far, he deserved everything coming at him.

Doug did not press the issue either and barked, “Take him and frisk him!” John was immediately restrained by a pair of bodyguards!
