Chapter 1090
A Life Debt Repaid
Sacrifice was not enough to earn oneâs love, and John had already told Nana before that he did not love her at all.
He was simply incapable of falling in love with a woman other than Cordy.
âJust go,â he told her. âI donât want to owe you again.â
All Nana found was irony. âYouâd rather die than owe me, so that I cant sully your relationship with Cordy?! Youâre really obsessed, John!â
âI am,â John replied bluntly.
Most importantly, Nana was never going to get him out given this situation, nor did he want Nana to die with him.
Nanaâs eyes were red even as tears streamed down her cheeks. âDonât you regret anything at all, John?â
âI donât.â
Tine.â
Nana turned to leave right then-if he did not care, she had no reason to humiliate herself.
She could let him die as he wished!
However, even as broke into a frantic dash out of the basement, she found the manor already engulfed in flames, and there was no exit in sight.
Worst of all, the rest of her family was goneâ¦
The skies beyond Lynd Manor were utterly dark as the smoke from the inferno engulfing Lynd Manor grew further out of control.
Sean and his men were putting on their fireproof overalls and were ready to charge inside.
âIâm going!â Cordy cried, determined.
Sean never gave in, let alone hand her one of the overalls.
âSean, Iâm telling youâIâm going in!â Cordy breathed as slowly and clearly as she could.
âI can do it myself,â Sean said, unmoved.
âGive me one of those, or Iâm charging inside without it,â Cordy threatened.
âDo you think theyâd listen to me or you?â Sean asked, glancing at the bodyguards around them.
âIâll hate you for this,â Cordy snapped.
âItâs no issue.â
âIâm being serious, Sean!â Cordy bellowed, glaring at him in turn. âLet me in now, or I swear I wonât ever return to Cranston Hall. Believe it!â
Sean gulped, clearly restraining his frustration as Cordy kept challenging the limits of his patience.
âI donât fear death,â Cordy said very slowly and clearly.
âHave you considered Dicky? Are you going to orphan him?â Sean asked.
Cordyâs heart skipped a beat, wavering ever so slightly at the thought of Richard, but she did not actually give in. âI have to go in.â
âFor John Levine?â Sean asked bluntly.
Patrick had been standing nearby and keeping quiet throughout, though he reacted ever so slightly when Sean asked that.
Cordy did not deny it either, and it was certainly the truth that she was going in to save John.
Even if he was dead, she must see the body.
She had enough, especially after he reappeared so bizarrely after disappearing four years ago!
âIâll save him. As long as heâs alive, Iâll save him even if it kills me,â Sean promised.
âI donât need you to die for me.â Cordy remained stubborn. âYour task is to retrieve that document. You donât have to care about anything else.â
âCordy!â
Even so, Cordy could not stop her emotions from erupting right then! Relationships go both ways, Sean! Do you think I want you to die when you refuse to let me?!â
