Chapter 1137
A Life Debt Repaid
Richard called out to him in surprise. âDaddy?!â
On the other hand, Cordy turned away in a split second.
John did the same. âYeah.â
âWhen did you come back?â Richard asked excitedly.
John headed downstairs and walked up to them âJust did.â
âWhere have you been? Why didnât you contact me? Your replies were half-hearted, too,â Richard huffed, clearly upset. âI thought youâd gone missing again.â
âI had something to do.â
âYour face is back now,â Richard pointed out in surprise just then.
He was busy complaining about John being distant to him and only noticed just then that Johnâs face was much better.
There were no burn marks to be seen, and most importantly, Johnâs original appearance was restored, and he no longer looked like Lucas Lynch.
âYeah,â John replied again, and glanced at Cordy.
Her eyes were glued to her phone and she was not looking at him again. He actually had the feeling that she did not get a good look at him when they traded glances for a second.
âAre you leaving later, Daddy?â Richard asked eagerly.
âNo.â
âWill you be staying in North City from now on?â
âYeah.â
âThen Iâm staying here too,â Richard quickly said.
âOkay.â John nodded.
With that, father and son kept chatting, while Cordy never said a word or looked up throughout until Nancy emerged from the kitchen at the back. âOh, youâre up already, Johnny? I called Cordy and Dicky, since I miss them and itâs been a while, and you happen to be here too. Donât you miss Daddy too, Dicky?â
âYeah.â Richard nodded repeatedly.
âOf course. Now come, letâs have lunch together,â Nancy quickly beckoned.
As everyone sat down at the dining table, Richard asked as a matter of courtesy, âIsnât Aunt Cora coming home?â
âShe canât make it since sheâs working,â Nancy replied and cheerfully put more food on Richardâs plate.
âEat more, Dicky -youâre going through puberty, so you have to make sure you have enough nutrients.â
âThank you, Grandaunt,â Richard said politely.
Nancy did the same for John after Richard. âItâs been years since youâre home, Johnny. Are you used to the food here? Youâve really lost weight too.â
âYeah, itâs fine,â John replied, before adding, âIâm fine on my own.â
âOkay,â Nancy said and started serving Cordy as well.
âThank you, but Iâm fine on my own,â Cordy quickly said.
âWhy donât you move back here with Dicky? Johnnyâs back, and itâs high time your family reunited,â
Nancy said as if it was only natural.
Cordy pursed her lips.
When Cordy received Nancyâs call to bring Richard home today on the pretext of her missing Richard, Cordy presumed to be just that.
Now, however, she finally understood what Nancy was plotting, and said nonchalantly, âDicky is now eleven. He can choose where he wants to live, and Iâll respect his decision.â
Hearing that, Richard turned toward her and asked, âWhat about you, Mommy?â
Cordy smiled. âIâll live in my own house, of course.â
Richard hung his head in clear disappointment.
âCordy, Levine Manor is large enough, so you can just move in,â Nancy said enthusiastically nonetheless. âThe more the merrier, and since you havenât married Johnny before, we could-â
âIâm marrying Patrick Stuart,â Cordy said bluntly, cutting her short. âThereâs no connection between myself and John, so we canât live together.â
John pursed his lips in silence.
Nancy said anxiously, âJohnny canât come back because of unexpected circumstances. Now that heâs back, your family can be reunited, so how could you-â
âAunt Nancy, stop,â John said, cutting Nancy short.
He understood that Nancy was being kind, but he did not want Cordy to be put in a difficult situation.
Cordy looked up at John and slowly said, âIâm really getting married.â
