A Life Debt Repaid By Cheng Xiaocheng Chapter 120
A Life Debt Repaid
âHello, Ms. Sachs. Your reputation precedes you, though youâre even more beautiful than when you appeared at the press conference.â Sam praised her earnestly.
âYou flatter me.â Cordy smiled. âYouâre quite handsome too.â
Sam smiled smugly and shot John a provoking look, but John ignored it.
Pulling out a chair for Cordy, John said, âI knew them since I was a boy since our families were close.
That said, I spent more time abroad and rarely came back. This is the first time Iâm celebrating my birthday in North City, so they wanted to join me.â
In other words, he wanted to celebrate it with her alone, but they insisted on tagging alone.
âAnyway, just be at ease. Donât mind them,â John then added quietly, clearly taking her feelings into consideration.
Cordy nodded.
It was his birthday, and naturally what he said went.
However, she wondered if she would have a chance to say the things she was prepared to say tonight.
That was when the door suddenly opened, and a familiar female voice could be heard.
âStarting without me? Youâre all evil!â
Cordy turned to find Zoe carrying a bouquet of flowers as she entered eagerly.
âOh, no one here would dare start without the queen of showbiz, right?â Bob exclaimed with exaggerated humility.
âGood boy.â Zoe grinned and walked straight to John, giving him a warm hug around the neck. Happy birthday, darling.â
John, however, was looking at the bouquet with disdain. âThatâs what you got me after asking everyone on Twitter?â
âHey, I gave my heart here,â Zoe argued defensively. âI picked each flower and wrapped it myself. Itâs a bouquet like no other, just the way I feel about you.â
âYouâre forgetting that weâre not at a film set, kiddo,â Bob teased.
Zoe shot him a glare. âThis is between me and him. You shut your filthy trap!â
Bob shrugged nonchalantly, already perfectly accustomed to the sibling rivalry.
That was when John snorted. âI bought you that Hermes Himalayan Birkin for your birthday and I only get flowers from you. Your love for me is really bottomless, huh?â
âBut you never told me what you wanted!â Zoe exclaimed, giving him a wounded look. âAnd you have the money to get anything you want anyway. How could you swindle a little actress like me who lives paycheck to paycheck?â
âFine, whatever. Sit down,â John growled, not wanting to waste his breath. âAnd donât put on such strong perfume next time. It stinks.â
âBuzz off!â Zoe snapped, sniffing herself even as she left Johnâs side. âItâs an expensive antique. I wouldnât have used it for myself even if I wanted to, and I was almost crying when I did it for your birthday. Do you even have standards?!â
Then, she sat beside Cordy as if it was natural.
Cordy pursed her lips in turn, calmly watched as John and Zoe flirted.
Even if John said that he hated flowers, he obviously spared a few more glances at the bouquet when Zoe told him that she wrapped it herself.
That was when Zoe leaned toward Cordy, asking, âCordy. Donât you think this smells good?â
âIt does,â Cordy replied. âRoyal Chamberâs premium rose perfume. Itâs the Hermes of perfumes, but most importantly, it has been out of production for a long time. It only shows up occasionally at auctions, so itâs a rare treasure.â
âYou know your stuff. Men really donât know a thing,â Zoe praised her earnestly.
Cordy was far more cultured and a greater person than she imagined, and Zoe loved Cordy to bits.
In fact, Zoe had been so thrilled as she watched Cordy destroy Noel and Kyle during the conference that she was clapping and exclaiming in excitement. She would even have invited Cordy out for drinks to celebrate if she were not busy!
press Fortunately, it was her brotherâs birthday today, and Zoe could keep drinking until she got drunk.
And if she were to be honest, she would not be here drinking with those geezers if Cordy was not coming.
