Chapter 1295
A Life Debt Repaid
Zoe felt pained even as she remembered how queasy she was in the morning.
Fortunately, her beer soon arrived, and the sight of it allowed her to forget the discomfort in her mind.
She took the bottle and poured herself a glass, but before she could drink, Jay snatched the glass off her hands. âYou canât drink anymore, Zoe.*
Zoe did a double take but snorted unhappily, *Why?! Iâm beat-canât I unwind?â
âFor the sake of your health, you shouldnât drink now.â
âWhat about my health? Donât worry, Iâm not actually sickââ
âYou might be pregnant,â Jay said slowly and clearly.
Everyone including Zoe was left gaping.
âW-What?! I⦠We⦠Itâs not that easy, right?!â she blabbed, too agitated to be coherent.
âWhenâs the last time you had your period?â Jay asked.
âAround the tenth of last month?â
Zoe was not sure about the specific date or time since she did not bother to keep track of it-it would just happen once a month anyway.
âThe twelfth,â Jay said precisely then.
âI think so.â Zoe shrugged guiltily, surprised that Jay would remember.
âAnd what day do you think today is?â
Zoe whipped out her phone to check. âThe twenty-eighthâ¦?â
Whoops.
That was more than ten days late-she had no idea!
The mood around the table tensed up as everyone listened to their exchange.
And considering Zoeâs strange behavior today, it had to be so.
âNo way!â Zoe exclaimed in disbelief-they had only stopped using contraceptives this month!
Jay was not that impressive, was he?!
Hold on, he was that impressive-perhaps even more so-when he got her pregnant with Yelena.
After all, that was just one shot!
Flustered, she stared at Jay, who told her, âLetâs get you checked at the hospital after dinner.â
âBut what if I am pregnant?â Zoe asked.
Jay grinned. âThen weâll be having another child.â
Zoe was speechless, spacing out just then.
They were actually planning to have another kid, but it was still surprising that it was happening so quickly!
It was not easy raising Yelena, and Zoe was hoping she could have a break in between.
What was worse, having a baby meant no more romping for a while!
It was as much a blessing as it was a curse!
âCongratulations on your second child,â Quinn quickly said.
âWe donât know for sure yet.â Zoe rolled her eyes, though she had a feeling that Jay was right.
Her delayed period, and her bodyâs various symptoms and reactionsâ¦
âAnyway, letâs celebrate.â Quinn smiled. âNo more alcohol, I guess. Milk is best for pregnant ladies.â
Zoe was left staring wistfully as Quinn took her beer away.
It looked so enticing!
âBy the way, youâre not young either, are you?â Zoe suddenly asked Quinn.
Quinn was speechless. âHow dare you. Weâre of the same age, and Iâm just a few months older at best.â
But it was true that she was not exactly young.
