A Life Debt Repaid By Cheng Xiaocheng Chapter 135
A Life Debt Repaid
The next day, Cordy woke up to find a text from John.
(Good morning, dear.]
She pursed her lips, not even noticing herself that her lips were curling upward in a smile as she read the text.
Still, she got changed, put on her makeup, and went to work as usual⦠But when she arrived outside her office, she found Simon, Plum, and Sue there, waiting for her.
âOh, youâre here, Cordy.â Sue even greeted her warmly.
Cordy simply glanced at them sideways, obviously aware of what they wanted to do.
She simply strode into her own office and took a seat at the desk, while they entered.
âCordy,â Simon began, his attitude passable. âYour grandmother came to apologize to you.â
When he finished, he quickly shot a look at Plumâwho was still upset she had to humble herself and apologize to Cordy.
However, she had to bear with it as she knew that it meant prison otherwise, not to mention that she had all she needed to torment Cordy!
She just had to resolve the issue at hand for nowâ¦
Taking a moment to calm herself, Plum walked up to Cordy, appearing kindly as she reached out to take Cordyâs handâonly to be rejected by Cordy right away.
Left hanging, Plum quickly regained composure nonetheless and said, âCordy, I made a mistake the other day. I was just so upset, I lost control and hit you⦠I heard your ear was hurt, so I brought you some fruits and supplements to help with your recovery,â
As she spoke, she hurriedly put the boxes of gifts on Cordyâs desk, but Cordy only spared it a glance and did not seem to care much in particular.
Plum started to show signs of indignation, but she restrained herself again as her son shot her a look.
âCordy, I understand that I was at fault, so please donât make things harder for me. You wouldnât want to go down on my knees to beg, right?â She said, âWeâre family. You canât really bear to see me going to prison when Iâm so old, right?â
Cordy, however, knew all too well what the Sachs wantedâall they were afraid of was causing too huge a mess, affecting their own reputation.
And after Plum apologized, they would come at Cordy with their worst yet.
However, Cordy compromised. âOf course I canât bear to see thatâ¦â
After all, the Sachs were not worth her ruining her own reputationâno matter what happened, she would cause controversy for the public if she brought Plum to court.
âBut do you really think an apology would do?â Cordy then finished.
Plum certainly knew that Cordy would not be that agreeable, but she restrained herself once more.
Anything could wait until after they swindled Cordy.
âWell, what do I have to do for you to forgive me? Would you like to slap me instead?â
Plum actually appeared sincere about that.
Cordy simply smiledâif she dared to hit Plum, her lawsuit against Plum would be moot, while the Sachs could use that as an excuse to destroy her!
âWell, I wouldnât dare,â Cordy said bluntly.
Beside them, Sue was actually disappointedâshe had brought a hidden camera, and if Cordy really did hit Plum, she would destroy Cordyâs reputation with that evidence!
âWell, what would you like me to do?â Plum asked with a mild look.
