Chapter 1395
A Life Debt Repaid
Ryan certainly sensed the irony in Samâs voice. âWhat are you trying to say?â
âWhat right do we have to demand our own employees to buy our cars?!â Sam demanded. âThis is a direct violation of labor laws, and do you have any guarantees that theyâre willing to buy it? If so much as one of them is unwilling and they decide to report us, we must face the lawâs judgment, and what do you think would be left of Saunderiaâs reputation? The tide hasnât really changed for Saunderia, and playing Russian roulette with company PR will see us facing bankruptcy again soon.â
âIâm sure they wonât protest if we give employee rebates,â Ryan argued.
âEmployee rebates? Whatâs the percentage we are talking about?â Sam demanded. âThirty? Forty?
Maybe even beyond fifty? Did it cross your mind that weâd be taking a loss in capital? Every employee has different living conditions and family background too, which affects their purchasing power.
Moreover, if Iâd recently bought a car that Iâm pleased with, Iâd refuse your offer even if you sold it to me with a ninety percent discount! Cars arenât household items âitâs a consumable that requires maintenance. Even if itâs a new energy car and costs less than carbon-fueled vehicles, it still costs money, especially for maintenance!â
Though Ryan was left glowering, he persisted. âThere are employees who will need it! Do you think this is right, denying my proposal when youâve done nothing?!â
Sam shrugged. â Arenât you denying my hard work even before Damian Craig has given me a definitive response?â
Ryan fumed, obviously put on the spot by Sam just then.
âThis is a board meeting,â Ryan growled through his teeth.â The boardâs unanimous agreement is needed. Those who agree with my proposal to have Saunderia employees purchase our cars with rebates as a means of promotion, raise your hand.â
Everyone was quiet and did not move-none of them agreed with Ryanâs proposal, after all.
He was left staring at them in disbelief-did Sam buy all of them in no time at all?!
âIs no one agreeing to my proposal?!â he snapped.
Sam certainly did not spare Ryan any dignity in return.â Anyone whoâs worked in business and has any level of experience would say no.â
âAre you mocking me?â
âJust stating facts.â Sam replied coolly. âThis sort of marketing is fundamentally wrong, and making employees buy company products is a clear violation of organizational management. Never in Saunderiaâs long history has there been any case of such employee exploitation-because the companyâs tenets and ideals forbid it!â
âIâm not exploiting employees. Iâm giving rebates-â
âMoreover, thereâs no telling what would come out of this proposal. Saunderia is not influential enough to sway public opinion into believing our product is of high quality just because our employees are using it. Such is public opinion- no one gets full control over it.â
Sam simply denied Ryan any chance to speak, which left Ryan glaring coldly.
He never imagined that Sam would humiliate him as so many watched!
For his part, Sam was not going to waste his time with Ryan, and he promptly summarized imposingly, âIâve made myself clear-l donât want to fight with you in a meeting because this wastes everyoneâs time.
Your suggestion is rejected because the board does not agree with it.â
âNow, back on the topic at hand-does everyone agree with scrapping the new energy car project should the joint venture fall through?â
