A Life Debt Repaid By Cheng Xiaocheng Chapter 146
A Life Debt Repaid
Still in her MPV, Zoe was scrolling through the news on her phone distractedly.
More articles were appearing online, almost snuffing out the scandal between Kyle and Noel.
She eventually reached Levine Manor, and she alighted to find Jay standing by the front door, seemingly waiting for her.
Zoe simply strode past him, pretending not to see him.
âZoe,â he called out, but she ignored that too.
âZoe,â he called out again, reaching out to grab her wrist.
She promptly raised her hand, avoiding his touch while wheeling on him with a cool look. âDonât touch me. Youâll get your filth on me.â
Jayâs fingers clenched as he lowered his hand, asking, âHave you considered what youâre going to do about the scandal?â
âMy management company is on it. Donât worry, it wonât affect the TV series.â
âItâs Johnny in that photo, right? At my fatherâs seventieth birthday.â
Jay sounded positive, but Zoe did not respond even as he continued, âI can talk to him on your behalf, see if he could enforce a media blackout.â
Although John did not agree with Zoeâs involvement in showbiz and would never help her whatever happened, he was very close with Jay. And since Jay was also Johnâs uncle, John would usually have to listen to him to some extent.
But Zoe did not need that.
âCould you just stay away from me, Jay Parker?â she snapped.
He gulped, but he otherwise stayed silent.
âIâve been doing what I can to avoid you and wouldnât be staying here if John didnât force me, let alone take a role in your project. Canât you just spare me when Iâm totally incapable of fighting back?!â Zoe continued, snarling every word.
Her eyes were welling with tears despite her calm expression!
She had kept trying to forget and restrain herself for eight years.
But to be honest, it was grilling and agonizing!
And yet, here he was, flaunting his sympathy and causing more misunderstandings.
âIâm sorry,â he apologized.
Yet another apology.
It was the only thing that she ever got from him.
âI thought we-â
âYou thought I donât love you any more?âZoe suggested directly.
Jay pursed his lips. âIâm not worth it.â
âAbsolutely. Even I find myself foolish.â Zoe smiled. âBut it doesnât matter-Iâm used to it now, after so many years have passed. Just donât bother me, and I can pretend I never loved you.â
As Jay remained silent, she strode past him. âGo to bed soon, Uncle Jay.â
She left so nonchalantly, without grief or misery-as if she was not the one who had been rejected.
She never noticed that Jay was doing all he could to restrain himself, even clenching his knuckles until they were white.
At the same time, the paparazzi lurking in the darkness quietly left after taking some satisfactory photos.
