Chapter 1468
A Life Debt Repaid
As the doctor interrogated Sam, he pursed his lips and replied, âHe knows he lost his leg.â
âHow could you tell him?!â the doctor cried in agitation. âDidnât I say not tell him?! Heâs weak, and knowing about his amputation wouldnât work for his recovery! Canât you be more careful as his family member?!â
And when the doctor was done, Lindsay could not hold back either. âHow could you be so terrible, Sam?! Donât you understand Ryanâs condition?! Why would you tell him?! Donât you know whatâs right at your age?! If heâs hurt because of you⦠I-Iâll give up!â
Lindsay started bawling at that, and Marvin had to comfort her.
However, he was clearly angry as well and told Sam, âWhat you did today is really disappointing, Sam.
Youâre thirtyâdonât you understand the consequences?â
Sam wanted to explain himself but soon decided it was futile.
It was always that way since they were children-he would always be the one at fault whenever he and Ryan were at odds.
If he said he never told Ryan now and that Ryan had guessed it himself, no one would believe it anyway-they would just believe that he was lying.
Lindsay promptly turned toward the doctorthen while sobbing hysterically. âWhat should we do now, doctor?! How bad is it, my son knowing his condition? You have to save him-heâs only in his thirties and still has much to live for! I canât outlive him!â
The doctor sighed exasperatedly. âHeâs stable and not in danger, but being depressed like this or sudden outbursts could lead to worse situations. But itâs already happened, so we just have to do our best to comfort him and help him accept reality.â
Lindsay remained hysterical. But heâs been successful even as a child and worked for the top research center of the country! Can someone as proud as him accept his disability?! I canât even imagine how much he was hurting when he found out⦠Iâd rather be the one hurting than him! How could fate be so cruel?!â
âPlease calm down,â the doctor told her. âFirst of all, we need to be positive around the patient, in order to offer him strength and assurance. Donât be sadder than him, or youâd overwhelm him. Donât worry -
acceptance is a process, and it takes time.â
Lindsay simply kept sobbing.
Just then, Ryan was wheeled out of the ER, and Lindsay leaped toward him, calling out tentatively, âAre you alright, Ryan? Does it hurt in any way?! Tell me⦠Tell Mommyâ¦â
Ryan kept his eyes closed and stayed silent.
He was clearly conscious and reluctant to deal with anyone, and that reaction only left Lindsay hurting more.
However, the doctor told him that he must first control his own emotions and quickly said, âIâll be with you whatever happens, alright? You have nothing to be afraid ofâ¦.â
Ryan did not respond, while tears rolled down from the corner of his eyes.
Lindsayâs heart could break right then, and she kept wiping them for him while telling him repeatedly:
âBe strong, Ryan.â
âWeâre family.â
âWe will get through this.â
Nonetheless, Ryan stayed silent even after he was wheeled into the ICU.
Everyone could only watch from the door, with Lindsayâs tears never stopping.
Marvinâs eyes were welling up with tears as wellâ¦
Sam was silent, his pain palpable, while Quinn had quietly shed tears a few times.
Soon, they watched as the staff inside lowered the folding curtains on the window of the ICU.
