Chapter 551
A Life Debt Repaid
âYes,â John admitted, âTo me, Cordy is the most important.â
âWhat gives her the right to be so loved by you, yet Iâm nothing to you?! Iâve been by your side for so many years, and Iâm willing to forsake even my dignity for you. Why canât I compare to Cordy? Why am I inferior to her?!â Jessica yelled hysterically.
She did not understand it at all.
She did not understand why she lost.
âThere need not be a reason for love. In fact, if I could state the reason why I love, that might not be love at all.â Compared to Jessicaâs agitation, John was terrifyingly calm. âIâll just tell you one thing: I want no one else but Cordy in my entire life!â
âYou want no one else but Cordyâ¦â Jessica broke out into laughter.
Unbridled, wild laughter tinged with hopelessness.
âWhat if I told you that Iâll never let you and Cordy be together your entire life?â
âLoving someone doesnât mean possessing someone. Jessica, I can only say that your love is too selfish,â John said coldly.
âSelfish? Yes, I am selfish! Since I was young, I must have whatever I like! Youâre no exception either!â
âSo, let Dicky go and Iâll die with you!â John cut to the chase.
âHah.â Jessica chuckled. âDo you think Iâll be fooled so easily? Do you really think I trust you enough to let you save Dicky right under my nose with a few casual words?â
John clenched his fists and glared at Jessica with his cold, dark eyes.
Jessica stood unfazed. âJohn, Iâve been by your side for so many years. I know clearly what you care and donât care about. Donât think that you can fool me just like this. Thatâs impossible!â
John clenched his fists tighter. âIn that case, make your decision according to your presumptions!â
With that, John turned to leave.
He stopped in his tracks after taking two steps and said, âThe moment I leave this place, it means that Iâve given up on Dicky. I donât care what choice you ultimately make, but I will choose to call the police.â
âJohn Levine!â Jessica could not believe that John would be so coldblooded as to not bother about his own sonâs life and death.
âIf you dare to leave, Dicky will die right in front of you.â
âThe outcome will be the same whether I leave or not,â John said calmly without any sign of emotion.
âJust get it over with and donât prolong the agony. Dicky will just have to blame it on his wretched fate.â
âJohn Levine, are you seriously that cruel?!â Jessica was in utter disbelief.
She was on the brink of collapse at seeing Johnâs determined steps as he walked away.
âDicky is your biological son!â
âI can have many more biological sons with Cordy,â John said as he walked off. âIâll eventually forget Dicky one day.â
âJohn Levine!â Jessica screamed.
She did not believe that John could remain unthreatened by her.
She snatched the gun from the bodyguardâs hands and aimed a shot at the sky.
John paused for a moment.
Jessica stared at his back, desperation written all over her face.
Yet, John did not so much as turn back to look.
He simply paused for a second before walking forward again.
âFine!â Jessica finally gave in when she saw that John was leaving for real.
She said, âCome back, Iâll let Dicky go.â
John stopped in his tracks, as if hesitant on what he should do.
âJohn, your son is only 7 years old. Can you really bear to see him die in my hands?â Jessica asked.
She saw the hesitation in his posture and finally believed him.
She finally believed that if John wanted to, he could really give Richard up.
For no reason whatsoever other than the fact that she similarly did not see family was important to her.
Her parents, her grandfather, her brotherâ¦
They were nothing to her.
Nothing but strangers living under one roof.
