Chapter 581
A Life Debt Repaid
Cordy did a double take, realizing belatedly that her entire body was still leaning on Lucas and her arms were wrapped firmly around his waist.
She quickly let go of him and straightened herself, explaining hastily as she did so, âThat was just an accident.â
Lucas sneered, clearly skeptical.
However, he didnât say much, perhaps out of respect for Maron.
Nonetheless, Cordy was indignant with his reaction.
How self-important could he get? Did he think every woman was eager to throw themselves at him?
Cordy shifted her body as far away as possible from him, but Lucas reminded her anyway, âYou should put on your seatbelt for safetyâs sake.â
Cordy took a deep breath, and told herself not to get upset.
She naturally knew that Lucas wasnât that nice, and was just worried that she would have an excuse to throw herself on him.
She gritted her teeth as she forcefully put on her seatbelt.
Soon, the car arrived at the restaurant.
Maron loved jalapenos recipes, and his preference for spicy food was curious for a foreigner.
Since they had called ahead, everything was ready as they headed inside their private room.
They took their seats; Lucas deliberately picked a spot far from Cordy, clearly very wary and prejudiced against her.
Cordy was never one who got nitpicky, but Lucasâs deliberate avoidance still left her a little upset.
However, she bore with it and focused all her attention on her conversation with Maron, wholeheartedly ignoring Lucasâs presence.
âIâve been saying that Minervaâs jalapenos just donât taste the same as Zidoniaâs.â Maron was full of praise even as he ate. âDonât you agree, Lucas?â
âYeah,â Lucas replied as he ate in silence, but he too was eating a lot.
Cordy didnât want to observe how much food he was wolfing down, but he almost finished the plate of jalapeno poppers while she had only begun to eat.
âBy the way, Lovely,â Maron said to her. âLucas is planning to expand his ecommerce business here in the capital. Heâs half Zidonian, but his father migrated some twenty years ago. He doesnât know anyone here, so try to help him out in his business. Weâve been friends for years, so I can vouch for him.â
âIâll do my best to help if thereâs any assistance you need, Mr. Lynch,â Cordy said politely-she certainly wouldnât reject Maron. Years of experience had taught her business conversation.
Nonetheless, Lucas rejected her without hesitation. âNo, itâs fine. Iâll manage my business on my own-l wonât impose on Miss Sachs.â
âYou might not be aware, but connections are vital in Zidonia. Without them, you wonât even make it through the front door,â Maron explained.
It was common knowledge that this was a place governed by sentiment, and there were times that people would refuse making money just to spite a person.
