Chapter 615
A Life Debt Repaid
Meanwhile, Cordy made her way toward Jay and sat with him, since she thought better of him in comparison to the others.
Jay greeted her in turn, and they both made small talk.
When his phone rang and he got to his feet, Cordy quickly moved to help him.
âIâm alright, thanks.â Jay turned herdown politely, and limped on his crutch to another corner.
Although his life was saved thanks to the treatment abroad, his right leg was still crippled after that accident.
Though it was fortunate that no limbs needed to be amputated, he was still denied a normal life.
He returned to Cordy after answering his call, and she did not ask who it was-they were not that close.
Still, Jay asked casually, âDo you usually watch variety shows?â
âWhy?â Cordy asked in surprise.
âIâve just received a notice that North City Channel is planning to organize this variety show called Actors on Set. Actors and actresses would be invited, and I was invited as a judge too-their production team just called, but Iâm hesitant.â
âNorth City TVâs variety shows are quality-assured,â Cordy said shortly.
It was during one such variety show that saw her shooting to fame and opened a new chapter to her career.
In fact, over the last few years, North City TVâs variety shows were wildly popular and basically dominating the scene.
âIf you have the time, I think you can take part as wellâif youâre willing, of course. In the end, the variety show means plenty of programs, and you can check if the arrangements are acceptable to you beforehand,â Cordy said what she thought then.
âI have only one film planned for release next spring, and itâs still in pre- production at the moment.
Production proper would just take a couple months, but I was wondering if I should free up my schedule for the rest of the year, and I donât think I want to get involved in film or drama series.â
âItâs not like you cant use the variety show to select actors and actresses for your planned projects.â
Jay smiled. âYouâre really smart.â
Cordy was always able to read his mind.
She smiled in turn. âNot really-youâre just that terrible with hiding your thoughts. Itâs written all over your face.â
Even so, she had no idea how he was able to hide his feelings for Zoe over all those years.
âUncle Jay,â Cora suddenly joined them, asking, âDid the production team ask you to be the judge for Actors on Set?â
âYou were invited too?â Jay asked.
âMy manager just called me a couple days ago about it. Iâll be a guest and would have a role in a live skit.â
âYou said yes?â
âWell, my manager told me that itâs North City TVâs flagship program and accepted it since itâd definitely sell. It would be great if you goâIâd be less tense,â Cora said earnestly. 1 âIâm still thinking about it,â Jay said bluntly.
âI see.â Cora did not press the issue since she was just asking in passing.
After that, she returned to Nancyâs side to play with Richard.
And when Cora was gone, Cordy said flatly, âYouâre quite nice to her.â
âYeah,â Jay replied without explaining himself.
One might even say that Jay was the one who assisted Cora in her rise to stardom-he was the director of the film where she had her breakout role and honed her acting ability from the ground up. Not only was that film a profound commercial success, but Cora was immediately nominated for best actress for her role too. Though she did not win, her popularity and rising stardom was far beyond the winning actressâ.
And now, Cora is an A-lister with endless resources at her disposal.
Cordy, however, would always compare Cora to Zoe, since Zoe never had the privilege of the familyâs influence in her showbiz career. Then, after she went through so much difficulty to build something for herself, the Levines ruthlessly destroyed it.
And where had she been over the last three years?
Was she really so intent on leaving without coming back? To sever ties with everyone here?!
