Chapter 651
A Life Debt Repaid
She did not want to talk any further.
The more she said, the more fault they would pick.
She stood up intending to leave.
âStay right there.â The actress ran toward her. âShouldnât you apologize to Yvonne?â
âWhy should I?â Zoe found it preposterous.
âYou snatched her spot. Donât you think she deserves an apology from you? n âThe judges were the ones who gave me that spot. If you find it unfair, you should look for the judges and not me.â
âYouâre great at passing the buck, arenât you, Zoe?â
âIâm telling the truth.â
âLet me tell you another piece of truth. If you donât formally apologize to Yvonne today, you can forget about leaving this place.â
Zoe furrowed her brows.
âLetâs see who wins this time.â The actress blocked Zoeâs way to the exit with a smug look on her face.
Zoe tried to compose herself.
If this had happened three years ago, she would have kicked the woman aside. What an eyesore!
But now, she had to admit that she did not have the guts to.
She did not have the guts to offend anyone.
She could not afford to offend anyone.
Things came to a deadlock.
Just then, Zoeâs phone rang. She glanced at the screen and wanted to answer the call when the actress snatched her phone away. âApologize first. Otherwise, I wonât let you answer any calls!â
Zoe gritted her teeth.
She walked to Yvonne and bowed. âIâm sorry.â
âSorry for what?â the actress asked threateningly.
âIâm sorry for snatching the last spot.â
âFinally admitting your mistake? Admitting that you went through the back door?â
âWhatever you say is right.â
Zoe decided to go all the way in her apology.
Anyway, there was no loss for her in saying a few more words.
The rest of them did not expect Zoe to be so acquiescing, completely unlike the pride and aura she had back then.
âCan you return my phone and let me go now?â Zoe asked the actress.
The actress shot Yvonne a glance, and Yvonne nodded The actress returned Zoe her phone and threw her a threat before leaving.â Donât let me see you here again.â
Zoe looked at them leaving before finally heaving a sigh of relief.
She looked at the missed call on her phone and quickly called back.â Whatâs up?â
She still was not used to calling Clara mom. In fact, she did not call Clara by any other address.
The two of them felt more like strangers to each other.
âIâm just calling to ask if youâre done with work? How did it go? What time will you be back for dinner? I made your favorite-â
âIâm done, I got a spot. Iâll come back in a while, in around half an hour.â
âOkay. Well wait for you for dinner.â
âOkay.â
Zoe walked out of the broadcasting station as she spoke on the phone.
She did not notice Jay standing at a spot not far from her.
Or perhaps, she noticed him.
The shadows of some people in I ife â¦j ust linger on even after many years.
But she no longer cared.
She no longer had any affections whatsoever, and she was glad about that.
Otherwise, if she knew that Jay simply stood idly by and watched on as others bullied her, she would have been heartbroken if this happened a few years back.
Now, everything was fine.
After Zoe left, Jay slowly hobbled out of the shadows on a walking stick.
What exactly did Zoe go through these few years for her to become like this?
This humble, lowly, and acquiescing in anything that came her way?!
