Chapter 682
A Life Debt Repaid
Cordy assured Dicky. âDonât worry. Youâll definitely grow very tall.â
âYeah!â Dicky nodded. âTil definitely become taller than Lucas.â
Cordy was left speechless, since that might be unnecessary.
What if he got taller than six feet? That would make getting a girlfriend harder.
Nonetheless, her feigned composure crumbled after Dicky left.
It had been an unpleasant day, after all.
Early next morning, someone knocked on Cordyâs door.
She opened it to find Sean standing at the doorway, looking a little tired.
Had he just returned from the hospital? What about Nana?
âSorry to wake you this early,â he apologized, unaware that he was insomniac.
Come to think of it, Cordy had been forgetting to buy herself sleeping pills since she came to Cranson Hall. She basically hadnât slept for days;
technically, Sean wasnât waking her up.
âHowâs Nana?â she asked bluntly.
âSheâs fine. Sheâs not in any immediate danger,â Sean said, and breathed a sigh of relief.
âItâs that serious? What on earth is her condition?â Cordy could not help asking.
âItâs a congenital heart defect,â Sean explained. âMedical technology wasnât as advanced as it was now, and it wasnât detected before she was born. There had been several medical alerts after she was born, but those were all close shaves. After that, she was sent abroad and treatment was going well, so she stayed there for years. I mean, yesterday was the first time Iâve seen her since she was five.â
As Cordy listened quietly, he continued, âItâs only after I accompanied her to the hospital yesterday that I learned that she had a heart transplant, but itâs a good match and she could live normally if there were no issuesâ¦and by issues, I meant allergic reactions. It puts a terrible toll on her heart and could actually stop it entirely and kill her. Thatâs why Lucas flipped out at you like that.â
âRight.â Cordy nodded.
Like she said last night, she understood and was rational enough to not keep her conduct from being affected by personal sentiment.
âYou have nothing to worry about,â Sean said. âNana has been rescued, and the allergy had no adverse effects on her heart or health. Naturally, this must never happen again because there was no telling if she might be this lucky again.â
âOkay,â Cordy replied. âYou should go to bed soon-youâve been working the whole night.â
âIâm alright. Working overnight is actually commonplace for following up with legal cases. Also, I have something else to tell you aside from Nanaâs recovery.â
Cordy remained composed despite Seanâs pointed gaze. âTell me.â
âNana asked to see you after she woke up,â Sean said. âI didnât decide it for you, though-you can go if you want, or say no if you like. Our grandfather will know what to tell the Lynds. Heâll never let you suffer.â
âAlso, I know youâre innocent. Iâve already seen the footage the butler just sent me, and itâs all on Nana.
I didnât present it as evidence for now, because getting too fussy with distant relatives would inevitably hurt the overall relationship. Iâm sure you could tell how close our grandfather was with his sister.â
âAlright. Iâll go,â Cordy said.
She certainly understood Seanâs misgivings. To show the Lynds the video to assert her innocence was a slap to their face.
They were relatives and families with wealth and power, so such a thing would only embarrass both parties.
