Chapter 685
A Life Debt Repaid
Lucas pursed his lips, but said nothing.
âYes, heâs too worried about me. Otherwise, heâd never yell at people without knowing what happened.
He usually doesnât behave like that,â Nana defended Lucas.
It appeared as if she wanted them to settle their differences, but in reality, anyone could tell that she was bragging about her close relationship with Lucas.
However, she conveyed herself so naturally there would never be wounded feelings.
âThatâs how people behave when it comes to people they care about,â Cordy said, agreeing to it.
She was convinced it was fine as long as they cleared the air, and that she didnât need any apologies. It was unnecessary, and was no big deal in the first place.
âDonât worry, Cordy. Iâll head home soon and talk to my family to clear the misunderstanding,â Nana promised.
âThank you,â Cordy replied, not rejecting the offer since it was naturally better to clear her name.
Otherwise, things would be difficult for her grandfather Jesse.
âOf course. But⦠Could you please not think badly of me and Lucas?â Nana asked tentatively. â1 really like you. I mean, you and Dicky are the most beautiful people Iâve ever met. Iâd really like to have a child as handsome as Dicky one dayâ¦â
âYou definitely can,â Cordy replied, encouraging her out of courtesy. âLucas is handsome, and youâre beautiful too. Your children will be no slouch.â
âBut⦠The doctors told me that my body probably canât handle a pregnancy. â Nanaâs gaze darkened.
Cordy was lost for words.
In fact, what could she say?
âI donât like children,â Lucas spoke up just then, offering Nana some solace as a boyfriend with perfect timing.
âBut I saw how much you liked Dicky,â Nana murmured, her gaze miserable as she knew she couldnât get pregnant.
âYou like Dicky too, donât you?â Lucas said shrewdly. âAnd since you like beautiful people, donât you like yourself?â
âThen⦠Do you like Cordy too?â
âI just meant that youâre pretty too, silly,â Lucas said dotingly.
It was obviously cheesy and flirty, but it was simply sweet as those two said it.
Cordy turned towards Sean, who caught her cue and said, âSince weâve cleared the air and Nanaâs now stable, itâs time we go. Get some rest, Nana. Medical technology is advanced, and that means you might have hope in the future. Plenty of opportunities lay ahead since youâre still young, n âYeah.â Nana nodded firmly. âIâll see you two around. Iâll bring Lucas over to apologize when Iâm better.â
âYou really donât have to,â Cordy insisted. âYour recovery is far more important.â
âOkay.â Nana smiled and nodded.
âWell, get some rest. Weâll be going now.â
âIâll see you out,â Lucas suddenly said.
Nanaâs smile seemed to stiffen for a split second, but she quickly said,â Yes, Lucas. You should go with them.â
Neither Sean nor Cordy refused him.
They headed out of the mansion.
Seanâs car was waiting. Just as he opened the door for Cordy and they were both ready to get in, however, Lucas suddenly stopped Cordy.
âCordyâ¦â
âWhat is it?â
âAbout last night-â
âItâs nothing.â Cordy refused to let him finish. âAnyone would react like that given the situation. I can understand, because I wonât be able to control myself if my beloved person was in danger too.â
