Chapter 716
A Life Debt Repaid
Cordy snapped, âI didnât ask for you!â
âWhat, did some jinx call me?!â Lucas shot back.
âThatâs an insult to an officer!â Cordy said sternly.
Lucas pursed his lips, and said, âWhat, are you saying you didnât ask the officer to call me?â
âNope.â
Lucasâs voice was getting louder as he demanded, âThen, what?! Does he have my number or something?!â
âYes! He remembered you from that bar fight!â
Lucas was left stumped for a moment before then continued loudly and assuredly, âThe cops wouldnât decide on that themselves. You put them up to it!â i âNo, I called my assistant and asked him to help,â Cordy explained while restraining herself. âBut it turns out that heâs on his honeymoon.â
âWhat, he didnât delegate his tasks when he works at a big company like yours? Who do you think youâre fooling?!â
âYes, he had a stand-in, but my phone ran out of juice by coincidence! They donât have a charger for my phoneâs model either, and do you think they could just get one this late at night? The cops just wanted it over with, so they called you!â
âHah!â Lucas snorted. âYou might sound like youâre making sense, but there are plenty of holes in your logic! Canât you ask to borrow someone elseâs phone?â
âI donât know my new assistantâs number. Heâs just standing in for two weeks-l have no reason to remember his number-â
âBut you do remember your assistantâs number, donât you? Why didnât you call him and tell him to call the stand-in for you?â
Cordy was stumped.
To be honest, she did not think of that-drinking too much really dulled her intelligence.
âPfft.â Lucas snorted in disdain and was clearly mocking her.
Incensed, Cordy snapped, âWell, you didnât have to come! Did I ever ask you to come?! You came anyway, and youâre being all hurt about it. And whereâs your girlfriend? What are you doing here instead of flirting with her?! n âHonestly, I just bailed you out. Is this how you treat your savior?â
âCalling yourself a savior just because you posted bail? What, should I spread my legs for you too?!â
Cordy retorted.
âI knew you were lusting after me, Cordy Sachs! This was all set up on purpose, wasnât it?! First you took off my pants, then asked me to post your bailânow, you want to sleep with me!â
Cordy was too frustrated to speak, and it took her a long while to growl through her teeth, âIf I ever had such thoughts, Lucas Lynch, lightning will strike me where I stand!
Boom!
A lightning bolt flashed briefly up in the skies out of the blue, followed by a resounding crack of thunder.
It just happened to illuminate Lucasâ smug smile, leaving Cordy murderous.
âStop the car!â she shrieked.
The driver glanced at Lucas, while Cordy repeated, âI told you to stop the car!â
âTrying to cover your embarrassment with anger, are we?â Lucas scoffed.
âExactly!â
âSo you do want me?â
âYes,â Cordy snapped, giving up on arguing right then.
The man could think whatever he liked.
âSo you actually were interested in me?â Lucas glared at her.
âSo stay away from me and deny me any chance,â Cordy growled at him viciously. âYou know that Iâm amazing with seduction, and Iâd have any man I have my eyes on.â
âYou give yourself too much credit,â Lucas retorted with disdain.
âThen why would you keep showing up around me? Are you saying youâre no interested, Lucas Lynch?! You couldâve just ignored me if you feel nothing, or are you saying you think nothing of me when you hover around me repeatedly?!â
âMe? Interested?!â Lucas certainly thought it was a joke.
âIf you were, why did you kiss me at the capital? Why did you stay with me at the hospital? Or actually entertain my stupid proposal to warm my bed?! Is that what you do when you hate a person?! Stop pretending, youâd be head over heels if not for your girlfriend-â
âStop the car!â Lucas yelled at the driver right then, and he did so immediately.
Then, Lucas turned to Cordy and barked, âGet out!â
Cordy did not hesitate to do so, though as soon as she got out, the car sped off, leaving Cordy alone on the isolated street.
