A Life Debt Repaid By Cheng Xiaocheng Chapter 83
A Life Debt Repaid
Cordy took Zoe to her apartment.
Zoe certainly was the type who fell asleep easily, and she dozed off the instant they got into the car.
Unable to wake Zoe up, Cordy had no idea where to take Zoe since she did not know where Zoe lived.
Arriving at the parking lot below her apartment, it took Cordy some strenuous effort to get Zoe out of the car, up the elevator, and into her house, where she finally put Zoe on her bed.
Cordy had always lived alone, so there was only one bed despite there being two rooms.
Zoe comfortably tossed around in Cordyâs bed just then, sound asleep.
Cordy thought that she could just call in human traffickers to take Zoe away, and Zoe would be none the wiser.
Did Zoe just not care, or was she that trusting toward Cordy?
Taking a deep breath, Cordy made Zoe a glass of honey and put it on the nightstand while she took a bath.
Once she was done and stepped outside, she noticed that her phone screen was flashing since it was kept on silent.
She picked it up and answered it out on the balcony.
âYouâre really understanding, arenât you, Cordy?!â Kyleâs scoffing came from the other end. âSigning up Zoe York to endorse Starstream Fashion? What, does it feel that good, sharing a man with her?! Youâre really disgusting!â
âIâve never felt luckier when our wedding was called off,â Cordy simply retorted. Itâd be a misfortune of a lifetime if I actually married you.â
âWhat gives you the right to criticize me?!â Kyle snapped in contempt. âKnow your place! You got knocked up at eighteen without getting married, and you now share a man with another woman! Youâre as cheap as you are filthy!â
âAnd you think yourself noble?â Cordy replied, not about to hold back against him. âDo you even consider how disgusting you were when you jumped into bed with Noel? Youâre literally nothing good, but still act so high and mighty. But honestly, youâre not.â
âIf you wonât accept my kindness, itâs pointless to talk to you further-â
âDonât act like youâre being nice. Youâre just jealous.â Cordy exposed Kyle right then.
âIâm jealous? Why would I be jealous of you?â
âBecause all of Jessop Corpâs efforts to sign Zoe York as an endorser failed. Youâre just hurting because you canât accept that old little Starstream Fashion could sign her instead.â
âYouâre delusional!â Kyle shot back. âStarstream isnât even on the level of Jessop Corp! Thereâs nothing to compare! And I donât care what you do over there, because youâll never reach our level no matter how much progress you have! So what if you get Zoe?! Itâs all just a publicity stunt!â
âFine, weâll see,â Cordy replied and hung up on him-speaking further with Kyle was pointless and mostly a waste of time.
On the other end, Kyleâs face was ashen after Cordy hung up on him.
He certainly must admit that he was frustrated when he saw the official announcement of Starstream and Zoeâs partnership.
On the other hand, Jessop Corp had tried to court Zoe for years, only for Cordy to sign Zoe up with relative ease.
Jessop Corp would be humiliated once word got out!
Moreover, he had been feeling infuriated ever since he broke up with Cordy.
But he believed the day would eventually come when Cordy got her just deserts, and she would understand that leaving him was the worst mistake of her life!
Returning to her bedroom after the call with Kyle, Cordy was surprised to find that Zoe had woken up.
Zoe was sitting on Cordyâs bed, though she appeared a little lethargic.
âFinished your call?â she asked Cordy.
âYouâre awake,â Cordy said.
âMy head hurts.â
âHave some honey.â
âI did.â
âThen, take a bath⦠or would you rather I send you home?â Cordy asked.
âIâm sleeping here.â Zoe was determined.
As a matter of fact, she rarely stayed in North City since she was always filming on location. On the rare occasion she returned, she would just stay at hotels since the Levines had many of those.
This time, she only stayed at Levine Manor because her parents and Alan Levine threatened her, saying they would make her leave showbiz and work at Levine Ventures if she refused to stay home.
As a free spirit who hated such a heavily regulated lifestyle, she thought she would lose her mind.
