Chapter 980
A Life Debt Repaid
Someone else added, âThatâs right. Let old Jesse rest. His health is of utmost importance.â
Sean nodded, and wheeled âJesseâ into a lounge reserved forthem. He then spotted Cordy and shot her a knowing look.
Cordy hurried to his side, while everyone else in the banquet watched in slight surprise.
How did she manage to get in Seanâs good graces?!
Once they were inside and ensured that no one was eavesdropping, Sean told Cordy, âJean will definitely come by to visit Jesse. Play along when the time comes.â
âOkay.â Cordy nodded. Then she asked, âIs Dicky going to be alright at Cranston Hall?â
She had her boy stay there since something might happen today, as she refused to put him in potential danger.
âDonât worry,â Sean assured her. âMy people are watching him.â
â Right.â Cordy nodded.
Silence ensued, until someone suddenly opened the door.
Jean then entered, escorted by the rest of her family.
She began slowly, âJesseâ¦â
âIâm sorry, maâam,â Sean said, standing between her and âJesseâ. âThe doctors said that Grandfather isnât in his best shape right now, so we shouldnât have too many people surrounding him. It may stress him and cause him difficulties in breathing.â
Jean understood Seanâs intention immediately, and gestured at the others, âGo on, greet our guests. Iâll speak to my brother alone.â
âYes, maâam.â
The Lynds filed out of the lounge, just as Sean shot Cordy a lok.
She nodded slightly and pushed âJesseâ up to Jean, who hacked violently just as they reached her.
Jean appeared deeply worried and concerned. âWhatâs wrong, Jesse?
Youâre already discharged, but you donât look well at allâ¦â
â Again, apologies.â Sean stopped her from reaching for the fake Jesseâs hand. âI couldnât tell you just now-or anyone else, honestly. Grandfatherâs lungs have been infected by a virus. He mostly recovered at the hospital, but the doctors told us thereâs still a risk of infection.â
âIâm not worried,â Jean said quickly.
âI understand, but Grandfather really wouldnât want you to catch it from him, â Sean countered. âYou should keep your distance if you want to talk, especially since youâre not that young either. Itâs fine for someone young and healthy to take the risk, but the elderly shouldnât-Grandfather himself being a point in case. The doctors had to operate on him multiple times, and letâs not forget how long he had to stay at the hospital.â
Jean was actually slightly terrified by Seanâs warning.
Even if she didnât show it, it was obvious that she was scared as she kept glancing backwards to see that the doors and windows werenât closed.
Nonetheless, she said, âI didnât know it was that serious, Jesse. I wouldnât have insisted that you come otherwiseâ¦â
âNanaâs wedding is-ahem!â Jesse kept coughing endlessly, though it was just a disguise to hide his voice.
âItâs alright, you donât have to talk,â Jean told him quickly. âIâm already so glad you can make it.â
âJesseâ waved her off, indicating that it was a necessary gesture.
Jean then added, âAnyway, the wedding will start soon, so Iâm going out to see how they are doing.
Wait here for me-lâll come by later.â
âJesseâ nodded, while continuing to cough violently.
Jean couldnât help taking a step back in turn, obviously terrified of getting infected.
âWell then, Iâll be going now,â Jean said, and left immediately.
Cordy and Sean shared a smile.
That was all too easy.
âI should go too,â Cordy said. âNana prepared a special seat for me, just beneath the stage.â
Sean raised a brow. âAre you sure you want to witness it with your own eyes?â
âJust keeping Patrick company.â
Bearing witness to Johnâs wedding was just an afterthought.
